Dear EDUWiki enthusiasts,
Voting for the Wikipedia & Education User Group Board concluded on November
10th.
After carefully examining the votes, here are the results:
* Out of 77 votes (after removing 3 duplicates), only 24 were valid votes
made by the User Group's members -
53 votes were counted out as invalid, as they were not made by members.
I encourage all of you to check if your username appears on the membership
list
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_%26_Education_User_G…>
.
If it is not, please apply for membership
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeglKZ4Ex5W7PjhDIkWsTNrFJqxnjLV1Bf…>,
so you can better engage with the User Group and cast your vote during the
next election process. Although the candidacy was made after the call for
candidates had expired, the Board chose to allow it and the voting form
included an option to vote for 6 candidates.
* Out of the 24 valid votes, here is the distribution of votes:
14 votes supported the current 5 Board members (LiAnna Davis, Susanna
Mkrtchyan, Ziko van Dijk, Filip Maljkovic and João Alexandre Peschanski)
remaining as the Board.
10 Votes supported 6 candidates: the 5 existing Board members mentioned
above, and Bukola Olutola James, who presented her candidacy during the
General Assembly.
As the majority of members voted to keep 5 seats, the Wikipedia & Education
User Group Board for the coming two years is: LiAnna Davis, Susanna
Mkrtchyan, Ziko van Dijk, Filip Maljkovic and João Alexandre Peschanski.
Additionally, as the Board was impressed by Bukola's desire to join the
Board and engage more with the UG's activities, the Board has offered
Bukola to be an advisor to the Board, which she has accepted. This role
will allow her to learn more about the Board's work and the UG's activities
first hand, and apply as a candidate in a timely manner in a future
election round.
I'd like to thank the Board for its continued work and hope you join me in
wishing them all another productive and successful term!
Sincerely,
Shani Evenstein Sigalov
Special Advisor to the Wikipedia & Education User Group Board
Hi all
I send you a job proposal of Wikimedia Switzerland. Please consider that it’s important the capacity to speak German fluently.
Education Expert (Manager) for Switzerland, 80- 100%
Wikimedia CH’s Education programme aims at increasing the accessibility of knowledge through delivering on and collaborating with educational projects that advance learning at every level, from children to adults. The associations’ work supports lifelong learning, as well as teachers and professors at schools, universities and other institutions of higher education. It provides tools and methods for digital learning and collaboration, accompanying these with capacity building and promotion.
The word “education” is used as proposed by the Swiss and European programmes, applying the term not only to schools or universities but also to the learning and development of every person at every age.
To better understand the needs of educators and other stakeholders regarding the use of Wikimedia projects, the strategy that WMCH followed up to now, has been re-worked with the help of experts and now needs an Education expert to break it down into annual plans and implement it, achieving concrete deliverables and outputs. Our target for 2026 foresees that WMCH becomes a respected player in Switzerland and abroad in the education field; this includes supporting programmes and efforts in the best possible way and acting as a catalyser and integrator of the different actions and initiatives that exist within the Movement and beyond.
In this exciting role you will thus be responsible for translating the new strategy into plans and actions and implementing these taking into consideration what has been done so far under the guidance of the current Education Manager. * Enable experimentation and innovation in the field of education and knowledge with the help of an Innovation Lab and other enablers.

I typically teach with Wikipedia once a year, and there's often new Dashboard functionality or tutorials to take advantage of. However, I'm presently struggling with the Peer Review functionality.
This semester I decided to use the Dashboard's peer review and some students are still in their sandbox and others are in mainspace and when they move or rename their article the Dashboard doesn't track it, so its hard for students to find others' work. There's a bunch of links now (for the sandbox and mainspace) and I expect students who give feedback on work that is in the mainspace will leave it on the sandbox if there's still an old copy, etc.
Additionally, there are now links for "peer review" in the dashboard that create separate pages, instead of encouraging students to edit the article for minor fixes and use the Talk page for discussion.
Am I misunderstanding how to use this; does anyone have any tips?
I'm thinking the old fashion approach of simply creating a user page where the students manually share the latest link to their content and sign up for others is easier...?

Chair, Wikipedia & Education User Group
Hi everyone
We are looking for one or two volunteers to have an interview with a group of developers participant to a Hackathon to have this week-end of start of next week.
The Hackathon has been organized together with the group of Women++ and 76% of participants are women.
The participants are from 16 countries and 29 nationalities and the interview will be in English.
What is the topic? The group has chosen the challenge to develop an ontology to describe and to categorize all educational material present in Wikimedia movement.
Basically they want to check the difficulties we have to find Wikimedia material for education or some cases studies because we have different repositories and not a specific standard.
Wikimedia CH has developed the project https://www.openedu.ch and the groups participating to the Hackathon are developing an ontology for that repository.
If you are interested, please contact me personally and I will send your contact to the organizers.
Kind regards
