Hi everyone,
Wikipeda & Education User Group [1] was formally approved recently and
we have started with our work! We want to help facilitate, support, and
advocate for educational work in the Wikimedia community and if you want
to support us in that, please join our user group by filling in a simple
form. [2]
We from the group's board are still in the process of setting things up
for the user group, but we want as many people as possible joining us,
especially people that believe that Wikimedia belongs in education,
because there's a lot of education things to do in our movement.
Also, don't let the user group's name fool you: we support all Wikimedia
projects and all Wikimedians and Wikimedia friends are welcome! :)
Cheers,
Filip Maljković

Calling all event organizers interested in the coming Event Metrics tool: As the Community Tech team has started working on the first two of six new reports planned for the tool, we’ve learned a lot about what numbers we can and can’t get at scale from our databases. In response, our plans have had to evolve.
In this post [1], I lay out details on which of the metrics we’d planned to include we’re now either adapting, delaying or dropping. We’re interested in your feedback, so please have a look and let us hear from you!
Yours,
Joe

Dear Wikimedia & Education community,
TL:DR Vote
<https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/voting_for_new_logo> on the
color for our new logo!
In January 2018 the Education Team at the Wikimedia Foundation published a
report based on a survey that asked all of the Wikimedia & Education
stakeholders for input about our communications and branding. The research
conducted last year found that our communications materials and resources
were not reflecting the work of our large and active community of program
leaders, educators, students, policy makers, and many more.
We announced in July that we would start making some initial revisions to
the Education space on Outreach Wiki
<https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education>. Including phasing out the
current visual identity, archiving outdated pages and information,
developing new content that is relevant and current, and improving overall
usability.
The first step in this process is to decide on a new logo. The
Communications team at the Wikimedia Foundation has designed something for
us, and has asked us to choose a color from three that they have provided.
We need your help to decide on the right color for our logo. Please look at
the options here
<https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/voting_for_new_logo>, and
vote for the one you like best.
After we have decided on the design that we like, the Education Team will
work with the Communications team to provide usage guidelines similar to
the one that was developed for the Wikimedia Hackathon
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/File:Wikimedia_Hackathon_logo_gudielines.pdf>.
This will include guidelines on variations of the logo, and how it can be
customized for different communities, groups, and events related to
Wikimedia & Education.
Voting starts today and will end on October 28, 2018. Again, the link is
here: https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/voting_for_new_logo
We look forward to seeing what you choose!

Dear Wikimedia & Education community,
I wanted to let you know that Vahid’s last day at WMF was Friday, October
5th. Vahid has been a valuable member of our team and the Wikimedia
movement for the last two years, and a vocal advocate for using the
Wikimedia projects in education. We wish him all the best in his next
endeavors. If you have ongoing dependencies or collaboration with Vahid,
please reach out to me, and I will help determine the best approach to
supporting you.
We are working hard to fill the open roles on the education team, and will
do our best to continue to support and advocate for the Wikimedia &
Education community. In the interim, we have brought on Sailesh Patnaik as
a part time contractor to support core communications workflows (e.g.
newsletter, office hours) and to support work on revamping education
content on Outreach Wiki.
If you have any questions, please direct them to me and I will do my best
to support you.
best regards,
Nichole
