Dear professors,
I would like to invite you all to make a short video using your own
computer saying why you have joined the Wikipedia Education Program
and the benefits you have found for your students.
During my last presentations to professors around Brazil, I've started
to show these two short videos, one of professor Juliana Bastos in a
TV news, and the other of professor Pablo Ortellado I made with my
mobile:
http://noticias.cancaonova.com/noticia.php?id=285520http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficheiro:Pablo_Ortellado_-_Wikipedia_na_Univer…
I can always see the positive reactions on the other professors faces.
I don't believe it needs to be too professional, just say with your
heart. I remember the first time I publish one video of professor
Juliana on my facebook, 5 professors came talk to me. I think that
would be a good way to persuade other professors on all the important
issues involved in building an free encyclopedia.
Best,
Tom

Hi all! Too bad to see this list being so quiet, as I'd love to hear from
other professors and find out what you're doing in your classes. Many
discussions take place on the WP talk pages, but it's hard to keep track of
everything there!
At the end of the month I'l be starting an undergraduate course in which
I'll use both Wikipedia and Moodle. For Wikipedia, the usual: articles,
userpages, talk, sandboxes etc. I'll use Moodle for forum discussions,
assignments and extra reading/media material. This is part of an
experimental initiative in Brazilian public universities to create working
models for the merging of traditional and distance learning classes, and
I'll be the first one to do this together with our well-known Wikipedia
Education Project.
My point is, I'd like to know whether any of you here or someone you know
has used Moodle to support a course with Wikipedia assignments. I'll be
happy to hear about such experiences. And I'll share mine when I have them,
of course.
Juliana.

Hi everybody,
is there some room for this in the Outreach-plattform?
Or: have you linked it already?
We have worked out some Material with a partner called klicksafe for
teachers. But it is not elearning in the common sense:
http://www.klicksafe.de/themen/suchen-recherchieren/wikipedia/
They will do adittional printmaterial next year.
Actally there is some action inthe p2pu- universe from creative commons
called "school of open", unfortunately not in German.
Activities are listed here: https://p2pu.org/en/search/?q=wikipedia
I would love to find a way to adress more people even though the german
teachers seem to be stuck in moodle.
So Juliana, i would love to have access to your course.
So far this are all just ideas, but I am open to hear more about other
initiatives.
cheers,
elly

Hi Juliana,
interesting you mention this!
We just got a request from a professor to try to create a moodle
course for editing Wikipedia.
It would be great to see the material you used.
We are currently still a little unsure about moodle since the problems
in usability sound a little like madiawiki problems ;)
And the course, like Lila said, is only open for one course and hard to spread.
Well, I am interested in hearing more.
Cheers, Elly

Hi folks,
I want to open discussion and hear some practical ideas or real stories
about projects with large scale editing participation, or how to
distribute assessment to the editors/students who are geographically
distributed throughout the country.
For example, let's say that we want to recruit 10000 students grouped in
class groups in particular schools to work on biology topics. Each
school must follow the teaching plan / time-line according to the
adopted methodology, i.e. they start with general biological terms then
with kingdoms, ecosystems, interactions of living bing in ecosystem,
evolution, and so on ... And the teachers give one or two assessment per
student of biology in particular class in particular school, to write
new or improve already written article in wikipedia. How to menage this
process? How to measure student work? The goals are to create maximal
number of articles with good quality. How to deal with projects of this
kind in limited time if you have time window of 6 months to start and
finish the project.
Any idea,
Dimce Grozdanoski

A wiki Caregiving and dementia workshop was held yesterday at the
University of Canberra. The event, with 11 participants of which 10 were
female, was organised by Dementia Training Study Centres around Australia
with JTNeill taking the lead.
Dementia Training Study Centres in Australia have decided to use WMF
platforms to organise and share information regarding dementia on WMF
projects similar to work being done by other GLAMs. The hope is this will
turn into a good pilot programme inside Australia to encourage greater
academic participation on Wikipedia, Wikiversity, Wikibooks, Wikinews,
Wikisource and other projects. It is also hoped that the project will
enable the long term preservation of work being done by the various groups
involved. Too much of it now gets created on CD or in print and then
disappears.
Details of the project can be found at
