Hi,
a friend just shared this tool with me
*"SlideWiki aims to exploit the wisdom, creativity and productivity of the
crowd for the creation of qualitative, rich, engaging educational
content.* With
SlideWiki users can create and collaborate on slides, diagrams, assessments
and arrange this content in richly-structured course presentations."
Tt seems interesting

An example

I'll try it on my next presentation. :)

Hey folks! I just put up an Individual Engagement Grant proposal for
an idea I've been kicking around for a while now: getting a course
about Wikipedia onto one of the big 'massive open online course'
systems that have been so successful lately (Coursera, Udacity, edX).
Coursera classes typically have tens of thousands of students, so
there's huge potential for recruiting new Wikipedians and bringing
together a lot of the knowledge we've developed about teaching *about*
Wikipedia.
If you're interested, have a look at the proposal:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Wikipedia_Massive_Open_Online_Cou…
And if you have an interest in *leading* a MOOC, let's talk.
Cheers,
Sage Ross (in a volunteer capacity)
Hi all,
I gave a presentation at the Open Education Resources conference in
Nottingham, UK about the Wikipedia Education Program. It generated some
interest, including from someone who is organising a seminar on Open
Educational Practices and Resources in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
She gave her email as sandramariano1(a)gmail.com and the event site is
http://seminario-ead-rea.eventbrite.pt The seminar's on May 13th, and she
would be very keen to have someone from the Wikimedia movement speaking. Is
this possible, or of interest, for anyone on this list?
There will be a blog post about the Nottingham event in about a week, on
blog.wikimedia.org.uk

Hello,
There is a proposal on meta at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Proposals_for_closing_projects#Close_Wi…
close Wikinews.
Currently, there is at least one French educational activity happening on
French Wikinews. (The French education project provides an opportunity for
some African contributors to share news that would not otherwise be
published.) On English Wikinews, there is a class of university students
practicing journalism skills as journalism class at the University of
Wollongong. This is the third time the instructor has used this Wikinews,
with community support, to teach future journalists the importance of
neutral, fact based reporting that must be verifiable.
Comment would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Laura Hale

Hi education folks,
I've just posted the agenda for the education workshop in Milan on the
outreach wiki page:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Education_Program/Education_Pr…
I'm confirming with Wikimedia Italia about a room for us, so I need to have
a final head-count on workshop attendees. If you are interested in coming
and are not signed up on the page, please do so as soon as possible.
Thanks!

"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more
useful than a life spent doing nothing."
Today the Wikis are 18 years of existence. And no doubt that they have
contributed a lot over the past 18 years, the Wikipedia is a good example.
The March 25, 1995 Howard G. Cunningham published the first Wiki, called
WikiWikiWeb, on the site of his company. Baptized with that name following
the Hawaiian term wiki which means quick.
We can not give them a birthday cake but at least remember, lol.

Hi,
I wanted to reach out and say hello. I'm James Neill (jtneill).
I've sketched out the beginnings of an outreach project:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Education_Program
which is simply to expand the Wikipedia Education Program to focus on all
sister projects rather than just Wikipedia.
Perhaps you already have something like this in mind, hence I'm touching
base to see what you think.
Sincerely,
James
Hi education and GLAM people,
Just wanted to draw your attention to this awesome blog by Esther
Solé talking about the education/GLAM project she's supporting to improve
articles on the Catalan Wikipedia about Catalan modernism:
http://blog.wikimedia.org/2013/03/21/viquimodernisme/
Very cool project, and thanks for the post, Esther!

Just wanted to draw your attention to this great blog post Sage put
together about the online training he did for students:
http://blog.wikimedia.org/2013/03/20/online-training-for-newcomers/
We're in the middle of porting the trainings over to the Portuguese
Wikipedia to see what the best way of doing this is, but we're hoping that
we can develop a set of best practices for porting, translating, and
localizing these online trainings, so that we can help programs working on
other language Wikipedias to develop similar trainings.
