Hello.
On the german Wiktionary, we have discussed about the case sensitivity
for our Wiktionary and the purpose was voted pro.
I asked TimStarling if it would be possible to convert then the de:
Wiktionary to case-sensitivity, that means to turn the automatic
capitalisation off. He said, he wouldn't do that for only one
Wiktionary, but for all at a time.
So I went here to ask you, what you would think about an case
sensitivity for _all_ Wiktionaries. Sure, there would be a huge of
broken links, but as the Wikis are still little and only have a few
articles, it is not a big problem to repair this. Except the en:
Wiktionary, of course, as a special case, who would need long to be
converted/ to repair the broken links.
Why all this: Most of latin languages have most words with lowercase
letters (ex.: german, french, english, ....). In the Wikipedia, it is
not a big problem to have only uppercase letters. But in a dictionary,
it's very important to have and to see a / the difference between upper-
and lowercase words.
What do you think about that idea? Should it be voted on all the local
Wiktionaries or only discussed here? Which shouldn't be converted?

As a mathematician, I suppose that I should jump in here and say
that the word that you want here is "symmetric", not "reflexive". ^_^

I have acknowledge the wike project some months ago and I'm impress for the
content and the extension it is acquiring.
I'm a Linguistics student and my main interest is the history of Romanic
languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French, etc.). Last year I try to find some
on-line etymological dictionaries for Spanish and I couldn¹t find any.
That lead me to think about creating a wikictionary for etymological studies
of Romanic languages. The problem is that my technological knowledge is very
limited and I'm searching people to help me and to teach me how to achieve
it. I have good knowledge of sql and (x)html if this helps, but my
foundations on server and sites organizations is very limited.

I checked the french wiktionary anf found around 500 definitions for 'usual' words. Nice.
But what if i search for the spelling of a word rather than its definition ? I think it would be real cool if we could use the Ispell dictionnaries to fill the databases with blank definitions
('sorry, no definition yet') but correct spelling

you've problably seen the "Reta Vortaro", it's a big Esperanto
dictionary, providing information about Esperanto-words but also
translations of them into many languages:

It's downloadable in XML-format and - it is free under GFDL!

I think it would be great using this as a basic database of the new
Esperanto-Wiktionary (http://eo.wiktionary.org), but because of the
XML-format it should be easy to create word indexes of other
languages.
There is just somebody needed who knows how to convert the
XML-structure into Wiki-Code and how to import this into the existing
Wiktionaries.

In some Wikimedia projects [[ReVo:titol]] does link to Reta Vortaro ( http://www.uni-leipzig.de/esperanto/voko/revo/ ) article with tittle "titol", but not in eo.wiktionary.org !
Can a developper fix that ?

Dear All,
my name is Stefan Jensen, I work for the European Environment Agency in Copenhagen DK, responsible among other things for the GEneral Multilingual Environmental Thesaurus. More on GEMET from http://eionet.eu.int/GEMET .
I came across Wiki type approaches recently and I am getting exited about the "open content" possibility this offers to maintain and share environmental terminologies.
Just now I am sitting in a meeting where many providers of environmental terminologies as well as technical solutions providers gather under a UNEP umbrella. (see also the thesaurus workshop under http://ecoinfo.eionet.eu.int ). I presented the Wiki-way to the group and there was interest and criticism alike.
I promised to explore the feasibility of such a thing...
Rough scetch of a process to pilot this would be:
- use Wiki open source software - preferable ZOPE based - to "publish" our material (5200 terms in 22 languages with 5 languages carrying alsodefinitions for the terms)
> How easy is it to get such stuff (available in XML/RDF) into it?
- after establishing this core, let people contribute terms, languages, definitions, concepts ...
> While we could test this, we would probably introduce some moderation to avoid chaos (but hopefully this is not even necessary). Any ideas on that one?

I have had many problems with users from Portugal in pt.wikipedia.com about the differences of portuguese at Brazil and Portugal.
My suggestion was create the Wikitionary entries that community accepted.
We could setup de Wikitionary in portuguese language?
