Now we have a group on Flickr where people can express why they love the wikimedia projects - more about this here:

We need the translation of a short text (see link above) in the following languages:
* English (well that is of course already done - it is just for completion) * French * German * Italian * Korean * Portuguese * Spanish * Traditional Chinese
It would be great if some of you could help :-) and maybe pass the information on to the relevant Village Pumps and discussion lists.

Hoi, Many Chinese who read and write Chinse all the time do not live in China at all. The notion that only mainland Chinese are able to read and write Chinese is not correct. There are many languages supported by a Wikipedia that have fewer speakers and writers than the number of people who speak / write Chinese outside of mainland China. Thanks, GerardM

I live in Taiwan and I could speak/read/write Chinese because it's my native.
Not all people who use Chinese live in China....
BTW, some people who live in China could still read the mail list. At least I could name some in the foundation-l list....

Ted - then could you do the translation? Most Singaporean Chinese have a decent - but not native - command of both English and Chinese. While I can converse in Chinese, I don't feel comfortable doing translations.
Wikipedia *does* need to lift the ban on Tor and welcome mainland Chinese. Its coverage of China is horrendous, and Baidu Baike has already overtaken the Chinese Wikipedia.

The translation of "Traditonal Chinese" one have been made.
But, do we need to have Simplified Chinese version as well? Mainly, Chinese people from Mainland of China, Singapore read Simplified Chinese, while people from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan using Traditional Chinese. However, the case is mostly Chinese people can understand both Simplified Chinese and Traditonal Chinese.

Just a note on this one: the languages for the WikiLove campaign are those that flickr accepts - that is why we have traditional Chinese.
If it was for our wikis: I would say yes, also simplyfied. But to make things sure: I will ask who is working on the flickr part.
