Hi all,
as you may recall, we have applied for recognition as a guinness world record with the 165.000+ images of 2011. However, to finalize that application, I need some help. We need to determine the final number of submitted picture - and will need two witnesses who will sign a statement. I'm pretty far with the witnesses - but need some help in making it easy for them to confirm the full number of images.
I thought the easiest way would be twofold: - make sure that the category 'Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011' is "clean" - that there are only valid images there. - create a list of url's with all submitted images.
To do that, I'd use the following definition of a valid submission: - For Switzerland, images submitted in July, August or September 2011 (starting time is in UTC+2, closing time in UTC+0). - For all other countries, images submitted in September 2011 (including Hungary, since the images submitted later were not considered for the international contest) - For all countries, possible delayed bot uploads (we'd need to manually identify those) - For all countries, the image has to contain the {{Wiki Loves Monuments|country code}} template (I don't think other templates were in use) - For all images, check whether it is a derivative of an existing image (probably easiest to just list all images that fulfill all other requirements and have a 'other versions' mention - and manually check those)
This should add up to all the images that were considered as a valid submission and could have been nominated for the international contest. Am I missing anything?
It would be great if someone could dig through the category and help clean it. Also, if someone could use a script to generate this list of url's once that is done. That way, for the proof we can both make a screenshot of the category, showing the full number, and count the list of url's and let the witnesses do some random checks on them.
Best,
Lodewijk
When do you need the results?

The sooner the better of course, but to try and get the record approved before the press run next edition, I think we should submit the proof this week at the latest. Also, I have arranged a meeting with a witness on Thursday morning, so to make sure everything is in order in time, I'd need the numbers by Tuesday.
Hope that works out,

Dear Lodewijk,
For the Hungarian competition: * we had 48 direct uploads on Wikimedia Commons in September (list is attached in direct uploads.txt) * I uploaded 1 picture on Wikimedia Commons before bot uploading (for testing): https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%C3%96sk%C5%B1_k%C3%B6rtemplom.jpg * Tgr uploaded by his bot 2019 pictures between 08:53, 30 September 2011https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Lak%C3%B3h%C3%A1z_%284173._sz%C3%A1m%C3%BA_m%C5%B1eml%C3%A9k%29.jpg&oldid=60294348and 18:06, 1 October 2011https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Obermayer%E2%80%93Hubay-f%C3%A9le_b%C3%A9rh%C3%A1z_%28Varga_Katalin_Gimn%C3%A1zium%29_%286051._sz%C3%A1m%C3%BA_m%C5%B1eml%C3%A9k%29_59.jpg&oldid=60400071from Indafoto.hu photo sharing site: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/TgrBot... these pictures are submitted and uploaded for the contest before end of September). So our final number should be *2068*, but Tgr will check this number tomorrow.
We had 3043 more valid submissions after 30 September for the national contest (ended on 21 October). We used {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2011|hu}} template for pictures are valid for international contest and {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2011-hu}} template for pictures uploaded between end of September and 21 of October. Both templates put files into Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 in Hungary. This category contains 5,046 pictures now after few deletions (which number is irrelevant here).
Best wishes, Samat

Thanks Alex, that was indeed a type of list I was looking for. Ideally, could you make the list with raw url's (as a txt output) - and scale this to all countries (possibly on a per country basis)?
Thanks!

I have checked dates of files in categories WLM 2011 for Andorra [1] and Spain [2]. I can run it for other countries if necessary. At first glance: * Photos uploaded on August 31th between 22:00 and 23:59 h are valid as it is UTC time and it was September in local CEST time zone. Now I realize I should have checked uploads on Septembre 30th between 22:00 and 23:59 h UTC. Ok, I'll try it again later. * Most photos uploaded on October are identified as bots uploading from Flickr WLM groups. * Some should be checked further and probably it shoud be removed the WLM 2011 template.

It will take some time to read all files, but it is no problem. Just to be sure:
* Switzerland: ** starting time 2011-06-30 22:00 (July UTC+2) ** closing time 2011-09-30 23:59 (September UTC+0) * Portugal: from 2011-08-31 23:00 to 2011-09-30 22:59 (UTC+1) * Estonia and Romania: from 2011-08-31 21:00 to 2011-09-30 20:59 (UTC+3) * Russia: from 2011-08-31 20:00 to 2011-09-30 19:59 (UTC+4) * Rest of countries: from 2011-08-31 22:00 to 2011-09-30 21:59 (UTC+2)

Thanks a lot, Vincenç! It would be very helpful if you could run the same for other countries (with the note of the exception for Switzerland, with different dates, of course). Thanks,Lodewijk

Subject: [Wiki Loves Monuments] help for the guinness world record proof
Hi all, as you may recall, we have applied for recognition as a guinness world record with the 165.000+ images of 2011.
To do that, I'd use the following definition of a valid submission:- For Switzerland, images submitted in July, August or September 2011 (starting time is in UTC+2, closing time in UTC+0).
- For all other countries, images submitted in September 2011 (including Hungary, since the images submitted later were not considered for the international contest)- For all countries, possible delayed bot uploads (we'd need to manually identify those)
- For all countries, the image has to contain the {{Wiki Loves Monuments|country code}} template (I don't think other templates were in use)- For all images, check whether it is a derivative of an existing image (probably easiest to just list all images that fulfill all other requirements and have a 'other versions' mention - and manually check those)
This should add up to all the images that were considered as a valid submission and could have been nominated for the international contest. Am I missing anything? It would be great if someone could dig through the category and help clean it. Also, if someone could use a script to generate this list of url's once that is done. That way, for the proof we can both make a screenshot of the category, showing the full number, and count the list of url's and let the witnesses do some random checks on them.
Best, Lodewijk

I have translated to UTC what Lodewijd said: "For Switzerland, images submitted in July, August or September 2011 (starting time is in UTC+2, closing time in UTC+0)." I assume for other countries that starting and closing time is in local timezone, so the question is to confirm if for Switzerland the closing time is UTC+0 (2011-09-30 23:59 UTC) or UTC+2 (2011-09-30 21:59 UTC) as other countries in CEST timezone.

I remember nothing closed before something like 0:30 CET, I took a copy of the category at 0:00 (which is somewhere in the mails here), there where quite some uploads at that last one or 2 ours, depending on how you count I estimate numbers between 155.000-175.000 (but you need an exact one). Did you get any limits on the timeframe from the Guiness records? Or did we decide on any official closing times? Because I believe this was, as far as judging pictures went, not really that strict. The times stated here seem to be logical closing times indeed. Mvg, Bas

It is the definition we want to use ourselves. The definition I'd think is fair is 'all images that contested to be nominated for the international round'. So if it was a valid submission for the national contest to be nominated, it should count.

It is up to local organizers to check if they are valid for any reason that Guiness' agents can verify, otherwise the template WLM 2011 should be removed. Maybe some organizers are not currently reading this mailing list. Note that some users are still uploading images with WLM 2011 template. They should be advised that the 2011 edition is closed.
For Hungary I've been bold and I've created a new category: * [[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 in Hungary - international]] for the international contest with images with template {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2011|hu}} * [[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 in Hungary]] for the national contest with both the previous template and {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2011-hu}} Only images in the first one are also categorized in the main [[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011]], so all files in this category should count for Guiness proof. Nice list, For the Netherlands: I have deleted one picture uploaded prior to 1 september There are 53 pictures uploaded between 22:00 and 24:00 (I guess this is UTC, so this was past 24:00 local time) The other ca 50 pictures where flickr imports. So I leave it up to you (Lodewijk?) what you want to count, with or without the 53 pictures. Everything uploaded after 24:00 commons time (so I guess 2:00 local) was allready deleted by me back in 2011. I also checked Luxembourg and Belgium Luxembourg has 1 picture between 22:00 and 24:00 commons time In Belgium I have deleted 1 pictures far before of the date. Belgium: 92 pictures where between 22:00 and 24:00 commons time (this seems to be so in many countries, we've to decide what time we want to take as a line, I don't know whether all organisers will react) Belgium: There are 39 pictures far behind (ranging from 2 days to 4 months) behind september, I've discussed with Romaine (one of the organisers there) and deleted the tags on those. So we've to decide what to do with all those between 22:00 and 24:00 (differs per country). AFAIK all the counts we did and that were published used the 22:00 GMT (0:00 CET) time for the counts. So we should indeed not mark them. But be aware of pictures that were perhaps after the deadline rotated by rotatebot, but uploaded in time. Those cases do of course qualify, don't know if Vincent took that into account.

I have checked first upload date in file history. So reuploads dont count. I have seen by chance two curious cases: * An image reuploaded in time over a previous image enhacing coulours. I think this one should not apply. * An image reuploaded in time over a previous different image. This is a valid submission but file history should be splitted.

I also checked Sweden: people between 22:00 and 24:00 UTC I allowed as good faith timezone issues, and the ones later were people who encountered technical difficulties.
Also did Russia, allowed the pictures uploaded between 1 and 15 September. I removed everything after the 0:00utc deadline.

Many images I encountered so far, were intentionally marked with the template - that means someone has copied the template manually into the description; most likely they would just copy the parameter as well.

Perhaps it is better to consider it for next edition for all countries. For example:
{{Wiki Loves Monuments 2012|es|validation=Uploaded after closing time}}
By default all images are validated with missing parameter. With any text self-explanatory in "validation" parameter then it can categorize at
[[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2012 in Spain invalidated]]

AFAIK all the counts we did and that were published used the 22:00 GMT (0:00 CET) time for the counts. So we should indeed not mark them. But
be aware of pictures that were perhaps after the deadline rotated by rotatebot, but uploaded in time. Those cases do of course qualify, don't know if Vincent took that into account.
I like the suggestion from Vincent for the notok mark in the template.

Andre

Hey there,
We need to clear this up. I just removed the template from ~50 files uploaded between 23:00 and 4:00 GMT from a user in Boston. Should I put the template back on these?

Hi,
when it comes to timezones, I'll leave the final decision to the local organization - but personally I'd go for 0:00 UTC (1:00 GMT?) as that was the last contest to officially close. But if a local team only considered less (i.e. 0:00 CEST), then I'm OK with that in that country.
For Russia, I removed ~60/70, for Sweden only 2.

I havealso seen that. I don't know the reason. Maybe they are just copying every wiki markup from a sample image, including WLM template, [[Category:Uploaded with UploadWizard]]... As well as the id template which is probably what they wanted.
For Russia, several removals have been restored - because they were re-uploads of erroneous uploads (two uploads under same file name).
I checked Portugal, and removed two images which were cropped, retouched etc and the template was erroneously copied. I left one picture uploaded before 1 September (test upload) and several after the deadline because they were admitted by the local team explicitely even though they were uploaded too late.
I started checking Poland, but because of the huge number I'll first check back with the organizers before moving forward. Removed several submissions up to July 2011.
Checked Norway, removed about 20 too early submissions.
Checked Germany. 2 early submissions were actually new images with the same file name. Didn't touch images uploaded before 0:00 UTC. A lot was already done by Kilian, thanks for that.
Please note: in all cases I *only* removed the template "{{Wiki Loves Monuments|xx}}" and not any categories etc. Might be a need for another botrun to fix that in your country.
France was already Thesupermat
Estonia only had pictures which were too late for their timezone but still before 0:00 UTC. I left all those there.
So, except for Poland, we're all done!

For Spain you listed many files by Joancreus, most of his contributions were flickr uploads (supposedly on time on flickr). You also listed User:Wiki-Bot uploads. Those are definitely ok.
It is up to local organizers to check if they are valid for any reason that Guiness' agents can verify, otherwise the template WLM 2011 should be removed.
IMHO it is ok to keep it for images which *intended* to participate in the contest, even if they missed the deadline for a few hours. "This image was uploaded as part of Wiki Loves Monuments 2011."
I'll try to make a list with our monument images.
Maybe some organizers are not currently reading this mailing list. Note that some users are still uploading images with WLM 2011 template. They should be advised that the 2011 edition is closed.
Indeed. I recently did a bot run removing the {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2011|es/es-cat}} template from 321 recently uploaded images [1]

A possible solution is to add a parameter "not ok" to keep track of them and set another categorization.

Thanks for the list! Austria should be clear now, I let the template in pictures uploaded exactly midnight. Could you re-run the script to verify that I havn't forgotten anything?

For Hungary I've been bold and I've created a new category:
- [[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 in Hungary -
international]] for the international contest with images with template {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2011|hu}}
- [[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 in Hungary]] for the
national contest with both the previous template and {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2011-hu}} Only images in the first one are also categorized in the main [[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011]], so all files in this category should count for Guiness proof. I hope I have not broken anything.

Portugal checked manually every single picture back in Sep and Oct 2011. So our cat is probably ok (Is only necessary to pass a bot to check if no new pic was add to the category since then) _____ *Béria Lima*

That is what Vriullup did, finding 7 pictures that seem to have been clearly too late, and several by a few minutes on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Vriullop/WLM_2011_out_of_date/Portug... But if they were approved as valid for the national contest, that is what we'll go with.

I saw your changes and I agree with it. I removed four pictures from WLM2011 category based on your list (three of them was uploaded before, one of them after the contest dates). Other pictures was imported from Indafoto by TgrBot on 1 October. These pictures are valid submissions because all these pictures uploaded and submitted on Indafoto in September.
[[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 in Hungary - international]] contains 2 066 files now and it should be the correct number for Hungary.

This is an extremely helpful overview! I went through Switzerland, which had a lot of false participants. Several on the list were valid submissions because they were uploaded on top of an existing image. For now I left them in the category, but I suggest that someone who is better at that, splits the history at some point.
