Dear all,
please help translate the participant survey on https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate/tsint-wlmsurvey&am... . Translating should be quite easy, I'm doing it right now for Dutch. We are using the same software that is used for translating system messages for MediaWiki.
Could you all please make sure that every language gets translated? Please note that you need at least two people to translate: one to make the initial translation, and one to 'check' the translations. Please log in before translating.
We would like to aim for 7-10 days to get everything translated. After that, we want the participant survey to be sent out as soon as possible.
Feel free to spread the message around and ask any questions you have.
At this point, all languages can use help translating or proofreading translations.
Best, Lodewijk
Hi Lodewijk,
I have finished translation for Thai. Thai proofreader(s) will take their time to do their job. There are limited Thai users on TranslateWiki.
BTW, When will this survey be deployed? When will the national team see the feedbacks?
Best, Taweetham

The survey was originally planned to be deployes at the end of October. At this point we will deploy as soon as it is sufficiently translated and set up on the server.
The feedbacks will become available as soon as they have been processed by the students (assuming this still fits their timeline) or when someone gets around to processing. At this point I have no clear deadlines in sight.

French is nearly reviewed (but I can't review myself).
Is there really a need to translate the survey in breton ? (I can do it… but it will take some time and AFAIK there was no breton-speaker participant).
Cdlt, ~nicolas
You shuold only translate it if you feel there is a need :) I was unsure - but since there was a banner in breton, I put it in the second tier anyway. I'll leave it up to your judgement.

The 2012-* messages don't need translation. They are only of historic interest.
https://toolserver.org/~platonides/wlmsurvey/wlm2013.php is the setup. I think it even contains the right texts.
They contain the English texts, I may update the translations as they get exported by translatewiki.
Please note any replies will go into the trash right now :)
Replies as in “survey answers”, not “replies to this email thread” of course. :)
Dear Taweetham, dear all,
From the moment when I get the dataset, it shouldn't be very long to do the data cleansing and run a few basic analyses (frequencies of all the variables; country comparisons) the results of which we can publish on the wiki. If I'm not overloaded with other stuff, this can be done within a couple of weeks.
More sophisticated analyses, interpretation, comparisons with findings from other surveys, and report writing will take longer; I have no students at hand for the moment to take care of this, and I probably won't have the time to do it myself in a timely fashion. If anybody is interested in further analyzing the data, please let me know.
As to the responses to question 20, I hope the international team will be able to dispatch them to the local organizers / the local chapter in each country. Not much data treatment is needed for that; we will just need to filter the cases according to the country of residence.
Cheers, Beat

Yes, no problem, but I don't see the text which needs to be translated.

Dear Taweetham, dear all,
From the moment when I get the dataset, it shouldn’t be very long to do the data cleansing and run a few basic analyses (frequencies of all the variables; country comparisons) the results of which we can publish on the wiki. If I’m not overloaded with other stuff, this can be done within a couple of weeks.
More sophisticated analyses, interpretation, comparisons with findings from other surveys, and report writing will take longer; I have no students at hand for the moment to take care of this, and I probably won’t have the time to do it myself in a timely fashion. If anybody is interested in further analyzing the data, please let me know.
As to the responses to question 20, I hope the international team will be able to dispatch them to the local organizers / the local chapter in each country. Not much data treatment is needed for that; we will just need to filter the cases according to the country of residence.
Cheers,
Beat

The survey was originally planned to be deployes at the end of October. At this point we will deploy as soon as it is sufficiently translated and set up on the server.
The feedbacks will become available as soon as they have been processed by the students (assuming this still fits their timeline) or when someone gets around to processing. At this point I have no clear deadlines in sight.

Hi Lodewijk,
I have finished translation for Thai. Thai proofreader(s) will take their time to do their job. There are limited Thai users on TranslateWiki.
BTW, When will this survey be deployed? When will the national team see the feedbacks?

1. Thai is ready (I mean proofread). How long does it take to appear at the toolserver page? https://toolserver.org/~platonides/wlmsurvey/wlm2013.php?userlang=th
2. For a solo translator, if you translated it on the day Lodewijk sent the link, you will be able to review them today. It is the case for me! I am so glad that I can do this myself rather than poking the same people repeatedly.
3. If I want to employ another private survey to winners in my own country, is there any objection? My survey could be more specific and complementary to the one here. (e.g. Have you received the prize by post? Do you like it? etc.) I wish to deploy my survey by direct email after I get the response from the international survey. (December?) But if this is not possible, perhaps I should start my survey now rather than later?

Hi Taweetham,
thanks for the translations! Was glad to see Thai translated so quickly.
Technically I think everyone is able to 'proofread' themselves, but there is real value in having someone else do it - it improves quality. But for a survey, we'll just use the translations without proofreading if necessary.
I believe it requires Platonides to put the translations live. We will do this all at once - because updating might be more tricky if better translations are provided (Platonides, please correct me if I'm wrong).
It is of course fine to set up a seperate survey for a specific group in your country. Because you don't need translations, you should be able to use more simple tools than this one. I would suggest to wait until this survey has been posted, and then add it to their talkpage.
Hope that helps, Lodewijk

Siebrand commits the translations to the Intuition repository, then if everything works as expected Intuition is supposed to make them live automatically, AFAIK (if it doesn't, maybe Platonides has to tweak some setting). https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:Intuition links some places where one can check.

The Arabic translation is under review. However, I am curious, is it possible to remove some questions/answers in particular languages? In some cases, there maybe confusing questions. Like asking about previous years of participation for a language spoken in countries that hadn't participated ever before this year. Or just unnecessary answers, like "Through direct communication with local chapter", as we just don't have any chapters in the region. It's possible, of course, for participants to just ignore those questions, but I would prefer if they can be removed. Thanks,Abbad.

Thanks, Abbad.

Dear all,
please help translate the participant survey on https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate/tsint-wlmsurvey&am...

Will we use these letters for this purpose? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:WLM_2013_thank_you https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:WLM_2013_survey_thank_you If yes, we should finalize them.

Thanks, Abbad.

Dear all,
please help translate the participant survey on https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate/tsint-wlmsurvey&am...

Hi Abbad,
we want to run the same survey in all languages and all countries to make the results more reliable. Technically, people who fill out the arab form can live anywhere - for example in the Netherlands - or they could even have participated with vacation pictures last year.
You're correct that you may need to adjust the chapter questions a bit to 'organizers' when that makes more sense. Leaving them out would not be an option I think.

Hi Abbad,
About removing some questions for specific languages, I don't think so.
