Wiktionary requests dating to the second half of 2011

There are three such requests, and I am going to mark each of them eligible: Wiktionary Emilian<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wiktionary_Emili…> (egl): I would remind you that the former code for "Emilian-Romagnol (eml)" was retired and split in 2009. Wiktionary Romagnol was marked eligible in November 2017, and this project is eligible, too. Question of what to do about the current Wikipedia in Emilian-Romagnol is not directly relevant. Wiktionary Rusyn<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wiktionary_Rusyn> (rue): The Wikipedia in this language was created in 2011. The Wiktionary project's request page does outline issues that have arisen at the Wikipedia. And the Wiktionary has been pretty dormant since 2011. But there are about 25 pages there, and the Wikipedia seems to be active. So this test is eligible, and will be marked that way. Wiktionary Assamese<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wiktionary_Assam…> (as): Project was closed and exported to Incubator in 2008 due to inactivity and spambots. I haven't heard any objections with respect to Montenegrin on translatewiki.net—even if Language Committee decisions apply there, which I personally doubt. With respect to Ancash Quechua, the question here is about an evolving standard that the Ecuadorian government is supporting on Ecuadorian varieties of Quechua. (See the page you cited below.) The communities (such as they are) have agreed to consolidate on Incubator using that evolving standard and the langcode qwh. It's not, after all, that it's very likely that a separate community is going to want to localize in the specific, pure variety "Huaylas Ancash Quechua" in addition. So I think you're fine. On the whole, as far as translatewiki.net goes, I think the approach should be, "When in doubt, include it." More precisely: The language definitely passes criterion 2 in "Requisites for eligibility" [1] ("The language must have a valid ISO 639 1–3 code"), but there is no conclusive decision about whether it passes criterion 3 ("The language must be sufficiently unique that it could not coexist on a more general wiki"). Example 1: Montenegrin (cnr), which was discussed lately, and about which most of the Language committee seems to have the opinion that it doesn't pass criterion 3. Example 2: Ancash Quechua (qwh). There is some discussion about it at https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmeta.wiki… , but I cannot find any discussion by committee members (other than Steven). (I don't have an opinion about it myself, and I'm not opposed to marking it as eligible.) Example 3: Dari (prs). This was already rejected by the committee with an explanation similar to Montenegrin, but it is already enabled in translatewiki. (Curiously, translatewiki also has Zoroastrian Dari [gbz]; I'm not sure why, but I'm not really opposed to it.) I'd say that in such cases, localization in translatewiki should usually be allowed. In translatewiki we have English, UK English, and Canadian English; German and Formal German (Sie); Hungarian and Formal Hungarian. If these are eligible for translatewiki, then I'd say that cnr and qwh are eligible for translatewiki, because both seem to have at least some differences from related languages. Of course, there's the question of whether Language Committee decisions apply to translatewiki at all, given that it's not really a Wikimedia project, but it's probably legitimate to at least express an opinion. Gorontalo Wikipedia

Dear colleagues, Suleman Bouti from Universitas Negeri Gorontalo answered my request for content verification and confirmed that the content of the Gorontalo test-project on Incubator is in fact written in the correct language. He also informed me that the language has no written standard, but I guess that should not be an obstacle. I therefore propose to approve this project. MF-W

I am going to start running through the requests that date to 2011. This first set consists of all of the requests that are NOT Wikipedia or Wiktionary, along with one Wiktionary request. Wikibooks Dusun<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikibooks_Dusun>, Wikinews Dusun<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikinews_Dusun>, and Wiktionary Dusun<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wiktionary_Dusun> (langcode dtp): Language of 140,000 speakers in Malaysia. Wikipedia request was marked eligible in 2011, and both Wikipedia and Wiktionary tests have a decent handful of pages each. The other two tests have only a couple of pages each, but I see no reason not to mark all of these as eligible, and will do so. Wikisource Wawa<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikisource_Wawa>: I'd actually like some advice on this one. (I suspect that this request was created because of the language's "unique" langcode—www—though at the time Milos proposed that it would be encoded with its proposed ISO 639–6 code, "wxwa", for technical reasons.) There is no evidence that anyone ever added any content for this in multilingual Wikisource, and the request page expresses doubt that there are many published, public-domain works in Wawa to publish here. On the other hand, this request is for Wikisource, and there's no reason that if someone has even one eligible work, it can't live on multilingual Wikisource forever anyway. Thoughts: Mark eligible? But as you can see from the discussion, (a) there are actually several hundred content pages in this test, and (b) there is ongoing support activity going on in the community. It seems to me that translatewiki is supporting other projects and clients besides WMF. If even one may potentially allow such codes, they have to be allowed on translatewiki. Steven White
