If you have not visited the site yet, be prepared for Google Ads, POV entries, and - oh yes - an occassional Wikipedian. Apologies if this is old news...
So? It's not a Wikimedia project, but a private wiki. Not every wiki has to be NPOV and without ads (and wikia is a commercial wiki provider, so they're bound to have ads).
So? So nothing. Ruth is just warning people who expect to get to some kind of Wikipedia as to what to actually expect.
If I go to google.com, I do not expect the wikipedia. If I go to wiki.org I do not expect the wikipedia. If I go to twiki.org I do not expect the wikipedia. If I go to emacswiki.org I do not expect the wikipedia. If I go to pbwiki.com I do not expect the wikipedia. If I go to wiki.x.org I do not expect the wikipedia. If I go to wikia.com I do not expect the wikipedia. Wiki != wikipedia. (NOT(!) equal to (=) wikipedia, for those who don't know this code syntax) I have no idea why andre thinks he knows "what to actually expect" from yet another wiki idea... Looks like after viewing the 708 million hits on google for 'wiki', he has concluded that 1,500 wikis out of 708,000,000 hits determine the future of wikipedia.
What are you talking about? Why are you twisting my and other people's words? What the fuck is going on here?
Ruth talked about wikia.com.... and then talked about it as if it was wikipedia.com. She was twisting dns names, as if "wiki" meant wikipedia, which wiki certainly does not mean. Wiki means "quick", and in pacific language families, wikiwiki (a quick version of quick) is very quick.
Your statement: "who expect to get to some..." based on bizarre dns names is more FUD, slamming any dns entry that has wiki in the name.
If this is things work, it's the last time I explain something on this list. I'm angry.
Taking a ball and going home is not very productive. Feel free to do so, however, if you cannot collaborate, in a positive way, with the millions of software developers on the 'net who are just trying to Do The Right Thing(tm)'
