Hello!
The first version of the offline multilingual dictionary and thesaurus based on the English Wiktionary is ready. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=wikokit.kiwidict.enwikt
It is based on the open-source project Wikokit http://code.google.com/p/wikokit/
P.S. Also this software could be used in order to search and correct :) errors in the Wiktionary http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Grease_pit#English_Wiktionary_Andro...
Best regards, Andrew Krizhanovsky.
Hi!
Very nice initiative, but neither of the 2 kiwidict versions (en and ru) work on my phone (HTC One X, ICS 4.03)
Is Ice Cream Sandwich not supported?
Thanks

Hi, Sebastien!
I have tested kiwidict at my "HTC Desire" and "HTC Wildfire" with Android 2.3.7 Cyanogenmod. Someday I hope to get phone or tablet with the Android 4.0, then I will test it...
Best regards, Andrew Krizhanovsky.

Basically there seems to be a nullpointer exception related to the DB... Did you test it in the emulator?
Thx

The download of the dict doesnt work for me. It starts downloading 1 of 2 files, then immediately i see it is unzipping 1 of 2. Then the app closes without crashing or an error.

Basically there seems to be a nullpointer exception related to the DB...
Did you test it in the emulator?
Yes, I tested it. Emulator is too slow, so I uploaded debug version of application from Eclipse to my phone.
The download of the dict doesnt work for me. It starts downloading 1 of 2
files, then immediately i see it is unzipping 1 of 2. Then the app closes without crashing or an error.
Can you try to download .ZIP file manually?
The quote from the program description:
It is possible to download the dictionary file manually. Download http://code.google.com/p/wikokit/downloads/detail?name=enwikt20111008_androi... and unzip to SD card in the folder /kiwidict/ Then run application.
-- Andrew.
I downloaded the data and the app now works. It starts with lang 'xal' and search term '_H%H' which confused me to begin with. Indonesian is lang 'id_' the underscore shouldnt be there?? The interface is nice. Font size of search results is a bit small; hard to pick the desired result. On Jul 4, 2012 5:23 PM, "Andrew Krizhanovsky" andrew.krizhanovsky@gmail.com wrote:

It starts with lang 'xal' and search term '_H%H' which confused me to begin with.
I made a random language code with several search request:
Several lines of source code:
public static final TipsTeapot tip0= new TipsTeapot("", "en"); public static final TipsTeapot tip1= new TipsTeapot("film%h", "de fr"); public static final TipsTeapot tip2= new TipsTeapot("_н%н", "xal"); public static final TipsTeapot tip3= new TipsTeapot("_yg%", "fr"); public static final TipsTeapot tip4= new TipsTeapot("%æ%р%æ", "os"); public static final TipsTeapot tip5= new TipsTeapot("% н", "uk");
It should show the possibility to use wildcard symbols % and _ and the possibility to search in different language codes at once, e.g. "de fr" But if it looks strange, then I will remove it in the next version.
Indonesian is lang 'id_' the underscore shouldnt be there??
Yes, you are right, id_ here (instead of "id") because of the problems with names in SQLite database. See list of languages in the source code: http://code.google.com/searchframe#nnQwlFITwiU/trunk/common_wiki/src/wikiped...
I should hide this problem with SQLite from the user :)
Font size of search results is a bit small; hard to pick the desired result.
Ok, I will increase it a little bit.
I downloaded the data and the app now works.
Great!
It should start with the language the user selected for the phone.
I would also like it to help me use/learn a foriegn language. in my case always show en and id, or make it easy to switch between those two.
With two features it could replace a lot of 'learn langX' apps. 1. Play audio of the word using recording on commons or text to speech 2. Sets/cats of words. E.g numbers and greetings/salutations
Ability to update/sync current page from witkt would be good.

OK. Latest selected languages in the beginning of the list of languages.
- Play audio of the word using recording on commons or text to speech
OK. I want to to use Wikimedia tarballs http://ftpmirror.your.org/pub/wikimedia/imagedumps/tarballs/
- Sets/cats of words. E.g numbers and greetings/salutations
Categories of words? OK. At this moment categories are not extracted from the Wiktionary. In future, after audio... We cad do it.
It should start with the language the user selected for the phone.
Good Idea! I need to make some research - how to get this info in Android.

Just tested the version from Play on HTC One V with Android 4.0, and it starts. I did not continue to download the 1GB though, no wi-fi at the moment.
It fails while downloading... The russian version does not start
