I made the mistake of overlooking this referred to template names; not
to field values.
Would it not be possible to qualify a template name by its usage, e.g.
"pos_adj" or "lang_adj"?

That could be done but it is not consistent with the way this template
was used until now. The proposed change is remedial in nature.
