*Dear ladies and gentlemen,
Hereby I am requesting the creation of a new Wikipedia in Tamazight (Berber) .
The language code should be: tam
The corresponding homepage url should be: http://tam.wikipedia.org
The Berber language (native name: Tamazight) is spoken throughout North Africa, but mainly in Morocco and Algeria. In its core, it is one single language (with regional accents and varieties, comparable with Arabic, Dutch, and Norwegian varieties).
This requested new Wikipedia language will be written in Latin script (simplified Berber-Latin script).
I request to put this new request on the move immediately and to inform me about any decisions or advice.
I am a native speaker of Berber, a langauge enthusiast, a self-educated Berber researcher, and I am highly motivated to develop a new thriving Wikpedia experience in my mother tongue, by opening this opportunity for thousands of my compatriots who are very enthusiastic about their mother tongue as well.
Some might argue that there is already a regional-Berber Wikipedia active (which is the Kabyle Wikipedia - http://kab.wikipedia.org). This is a regional variety of the Berber language (spoken in north eastern Algeria), and it is comparable with Alemannisch and German, or with West-Vlams and Dutch.
I want to make the year 2010 the year for the Tamazight language, would you care to help me and thousands of Berbers do that?
I am awaiting your comments and thoughts,
Best regards and happy holidays,
Moubarik Belkasim*
Hi Nador, Thank you for your detailed and well thought out email. In order to create any new project or language we propose them on "Meta Wiki" ( Meta.wikimedia.org), a project that is used for coordination between all of the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) wikis. We have instructions on how to do this at: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Language_committee/Handbook_(requesters)#Maki...http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Language_committee/Handbook_%28requesters%29#Making_a_new_request Given the thought that you have already put into this proposal here and the enthusiasm you obviously have for the project I don't think creating the proposal will take that long. When a wiki is proposed (on Meta) it allows everyone to discuss the pros and cons of the proposal and then the Language Committee (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Language_committee) makes a final decision and helps to create the new project.
Let me know if you need anyhelp doing so either via email or on my talk page on meta at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User talk:Jamesofur

100 gmail invites and no one to give them to :( let me know if you want one :)
