Is there any way that non-English Wikipedias could be on a seperate server than the English one, so we wouldn't have to feel the effects of the massive English-language traffic killing us?

No reason at all, other than having someone buy us another server. I'm sure it will happen eventually.

We do have another server coming, which will be used to separate the database and the webserver onto two machines. The big advantage of this is that we can assign a lot more memory to the database -- which should help with searches -- and the database and PHP won't have to fight each other for CPU time -- since they both want it at the same time. :)
This should greatly reduce contention. An additional separate server for the rest of the languages might be a help, too, for splitting up the overall traffic load. Feel free to pass the plate and get one bought; we'll find a way to use it.
