Hoi, As we have not stopped discussing all kinds of everything because of Jimbo's presentation on the radio. I would like to change the subject and direct you to http://asp.noterik.com/asset-view/23 where you find a video stream with three presentations. The latest is Jimbo's. All three speeches are in English :)
Jimbo mentioned enough good things to make it worth your while. I really liked that EllyWa's law is now known to Jimbo. I think most wikipedians have seen this variations on Murphy's law in action. :)
Thanks, GerardM

Where does Jimbo's bit start? There's a slightly bewildering array of what look like snapshots: do they denote sections? Does Jimbo's bit start at 1:21:32, picture #9?

Hoi, To be honest, I was there so I did not look at it. I think it would make sense for these snapshots to indicate where to start. I was given the URL by a friend and I wanted to share it with you all :) . I also find that I have never looked at data in this format.. It does not work for me. :(
Thanks, GerardM

I wonder if someone would be so kind as to state "EllyWa's Law" in some standard form by which it is understood in the Dutch community.
I am personally thinking of this as I think of the "Piranha Effect" as identified by the French community.
I think it is lovely, just lovely, when ideas like this become known from different communities to help us all understand our work better.
For those who don't know, Ellywa is one of the most important and beloved editors in the Dutch community. She's like Angela in English or Anthere in French. :-)

Or Pippu in Sicilian, or Roderick in Maltese, or Mountain in Chinese... ;)

Can Ellywa's Law be stated, or is it completely ineffable?

It runs: "After growing to some 10,000s of artricles, there will be a steady growth of duplicate information (two articles on the same topic or the same information once in a specialised and once in a broader article)."
Wouter. P.S. Please see http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wet_van_Ellywa and try if you can find it out, despite of the Dutchness of the article.

This is related to the [[Birthday paradox]], in that it happens far quicker than you would expect.
