The web server 'larousse' which holds the English wikipedia (and test.wikipedia.org) is down due to problems with a software upgrade that will require some on-site maintenance.
I've called Jason, he's on his way (thanks Jason!); hopefully this should be sorted out within a few hours.
Sorry for the inconvenience...
All non-English wikipedias, meta, wiktionary etc are unaffected.

No problems. One question :
Do you plan to provide official read only mirrors ? A dedicated version for the wiki updates and mirrors for read only access. If you want, I can easily setup a mirror located in Europe on an important research network.
Have a nice day,
adulau

You should read meat.wikipedia.org better. There are tarballs of the current (cur) and version-history (old) database available. Just download the cur db and the wikipedia software and I'm sure you won't need hours to install both. You must set the database read-only to have a good mirror of the site.
ciao, tom
PS: Personally I think it would be a very good idea to have the european languages (except english) located in the old world. But the foundation and it's fund raising might make that possible someday.

Big thanks to Jason for driving back down to San Diego to bang on the server again; we finally got it back up and online about a half hour ago.

Thanks so much for the efforts to help us all keep getting our wiki dosage regularly ;-)
Well, at least it a healthy habit...
