Has anyone written some instructions on how to use this, for people who don't know? That would be a great service.
If you've never used IRC and don't know how, count yourself lucky. Nothing positive has ever come from realtime chat. Wikipedia is already a little to close to "realtime" for me; I like to have a bit of time to think about what I'm going to say before I start typing. 0
Actually, I have used IRC, many years ago (ANd come to think of it, we did some sort of IRC chat on Nupedia recently, too.) I generally share your opinion of it, but it can sometimes be kind of fun. I just thought it would be a great thing, if we *are* going to have a Wikipedia channel, to have pointers to instructions on how to get to it.

It all depends on the channel, not IRC. I get good help regularly from open source project members on IRC.
