The "move this page" feature currently has a bug that resets the timestamp for all old edits to the current time. Another bug in the history list function causes most of the edits to disappear when looking at the history for a page that has been moved this way, as the edits were being sorted by timestamp... the edit that should terminate the list comes up first instead, and it's prematurely cut off.
I've just submitted to CVS fixes for these to special_movepage.php and special_dohistory.php; I highly recommend that at least these two files be updated on the running 'pedia as soon as possible, and that people refrain from using the "move" feature until this is done.
Note that old edits and authorship information are _not_ lost from the database, but the times that the edits were made are lost.

Darn... and it's such a handy function too. Hope it's fixed soon.

Once this is fixed, can you explain how to use this feature? The only way I know of to move a page is to open both the old page and the new one in separate browser windows and cut and paste (being sure to save the new one first before saving the one I cut from).

It's currently restricted to sysops; I'm not sure if this is an intended policy or if that's just a legacy of it originally being introduced as a quasi-experimental feature...
If you are logged in as a user with sysop status, there should be a link "Move this page" in the sidebar when looking at an article. Click; type in the new title, hit the button, et voila! The page is renamed, with the complete editing history still intact, but under the new title. A redirect page is created under the old title unless you unclick the check box for that.
Note that it doesn't currently carry the associated talk page over automatically; that should probably be added too.

Obviously I'm missing out. How do I become a sysop? Do I need a recommendation?

You email Jimbo and ask. He may have done it by now, just from your posting here.
