A wikipedian asked me recently if I could allow him to join the Wikipedia network on Facebook. This network requires to have a valid email address from Wikipedia (whatever that might be... wikimedia.org does not constitute a valid address).
Any idea who created that network ? http://www.facebook.com/networks/50432512/Wikipedia/

That's an awfully exclusive group :)

PS - I am friends with five of the people in it. You are probably friends with all 8 of them. When you are logged into facebook and looking at that network, you'll notice the 5 is hyperlinked. Click it.

Facebook company or school networks are reserved for people actually associated with that company or school, which Facebook generally enforces by requiring an email address at that institution's domain.
The Wikipedia network would be for employees from Wikipedia - I'm not so sure how many people that would actually be.
Facebook probably created it themselves, possibly by request from someone.

For the record, it requires a @wikipedia.org email address (every @wikimedia.org address should also work with @wikipedia.org, just make sure to add an email address like 'fdevouard@wikipedia.org' to your account email addresses).
Oh, and, if you feel your life would be enrichened by joining this exclusive network (which is at the moment that small, that it had not even an automatic overview page created for it), try to become a list administrator somewhere, I was told to get into the network via foundation-l-owner@wikipedia.org, and see, it worked...
Now back to relevant things, Michael
I have @wikimedia.org email and I was not able to join the network.

But, it works with foundation-l-owner@wikiPedia.org. BTW, is there an alias @wikiPedia.org for @wikiMedia.org email accounts?

As far as I know, @wikipedia.org and @wikimedia.org are 'equal' as they can be mutually substituted
For the record: The facebook network "Wikipedia" can only be joined giving a @wikipedia.org address, so instead of writing your @wikimedia.org address, just write the same with @wikiPedia.org
[I don't know who created this rule...probably some Facebook employee or else the one who submitted the Wikipedia network in the first place]

Maybe the software doesn't like you. :)
