Lost of web pages make their content available without charge for "educational purposes". IANAL, but I guess an encyclopedia is clearly educational, so does that apply to wikipedia as well? If yes, it would mean that we could copy texts and images (all while giving proper credit to the original source).

This would be satisfactory *for our site*, I'm sure. However, it would not be consistent with the GNU FDL. That is, we could use the images for our site, which is for educational purposes, but we couldn't authorize other people to have as much freedom as the GNU FDL gives them.
