Hoi,
Red links are part of the MediaWiki architecture. They indicate that a subject has not been covered in an article. Consequently, they are functional and, a good thing to have.
When you link to a "disambiguation page", there is a chance that there is a reference to the missing subject, there is however no guarantee. When you are looking for a given subject, chances are that Wikidata does have an item for the missing article.
Magnus Manske created a new template on the en.wp named "Redwd" [1]. It does do two things, it leaves the red link red and, it refers to both Wikidata and the Reasonator. I blogged about it [2] and Jane used it on a disambiguation page [3].
The template is relatively simple and it can easily be copied to any other Wikipedia that is interested in this functionality. As it is the first iteration of this functionality, I am sure that there will be people who will provide us with improvements to what is already on offer.
I want to thank Magnus for the code and Multichill for the documentation. Thanks, GerardM
PS, the disambiguation by Reasonator will show all items that fit a criterium [4]

Hoi, I blogged about the policy [1] and made the point that the use of a template is technically enough to make it NOT a redlink. I also make the point why having Wikidata statements trumps the use of stubs. I also indicate that it makes sense to have a link to the Reasonator search page. What is will do is make it obvious that many items in Wikidata need merging. It takes however language skills to be sure that the subjects are indeed the same.
Anyway, when people revert the inclusion of a template based on the likeness to a red link, it is time to point out that according to the policies this is NOT a red link as additional functionality is provided. The fact that an item exists in Wikidata is prove of the notability of a subject. <grin> other Wikipedias wrote about that subject. Thanks, GerardM

A great dies.
I've added a third example to the documentation, using an existing article (a blue, not red, link). This will occur, for example, when a missing article is created by an editor unaware of the template's use elsewhere.
The template should detect this, and display nothing. A bot should occasionally remove such instances.

The template now shows only the "blue" link for existing links. It also adds to the page, so bots ot humans can replace the template.
Magnus, I think that « {{#if:{}|{}|{}}} » may be simplified : « {{{3|{}}}} ». R. Budelberger.

These links should also (or, perhaps, instead) be in the boilerplate for creating a new page, for example:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Purple_light&action=edit&...
Also, an instance without a Q value, say Purple light, should generate a link to a Wikidata and/or Reasonator search for the page title.

We could add a link to the Wikidata/Reasonator search, but how would we know, on the page, which item is meant?
Also, an instance without a Q value, say Purple light, should generate a link to a Wikidata and/or Reasonator search for the page title.
This works now, although it then needs to be Purple_light (underscore, no spaces); couldn't figure out how do urlencode in a external link yet.
