If there is no reaction I consider this as approval and will organize the registration for Germany. It costs 300 Euro and lasts for 10 years.
Just as a datapoint. In Finland trademarks registered within the European Union can register internet domains (private individuals can not yet do so, though the registration is about to liberalize somewhat soon), and are protected against cybersquatters claiming the selfsame domain, at least in some circumstances.

Does this mean that we only need to register the trademark once for it to be valid in the entire EU? If so, EUR300 for an EU trademark plus USD335 for a US trademark only adds up to USD$750 or so, which isn't all *that* bad. If, on the other hand, we have to register individually in each EU country, that'd add up to a lot more.

Yes, but the French organisation managing domain names just said that it will ease the registration of .fr domain names, i.e. a trademark won't be necessary anymore, but it will still be only possible for companies. I am not sure what it will mean by "only possible for companies" (only organisations or only commercial companies).
