Is there a plan to migrate all wikis to utf-8?
Yes, this will be done with the MediaWiki 1.5 upgrade which will happen
in the next month or so.
at the very least it
makes writing interwiki links a major pain. For now I seem to be able
to
just force my browser (Safari) to utf-8 long enough to type the
interwiki links.
Try Firefox; it will automatically convert non-Latin1 characters to
character reference entities when you post.
Firefox on the Mac has this really nasty scrolling bug with textareas
(not to mention it leaks memory) - better use Camino instead.
