I ran it while testing, to confirm that it was, indeed, monstruously
slow on the larger tables.
Well, it is.
However it shouldn't _crash_ the server; that shows (along with the two
spontaneous MySQL crashes we've had earlier) that there's still a lot
of work to be done on this new machine before we can declare it to be
stable and happy.
