Over the past 6 years, I have contributed in diverse ways to support wikimedia projects and volunteered in conferences. Currently, I also serve as a committee member with the community grant resource team.

Dear All,
Wikimedia Deutschland's Movement Strategy and Global Relations team is
excited to announce the launch of our new podcast on all things Movement
Strategy: WIKIMOVE
The podcast will be a forum for open and frank conversations about topics
related to movement strategy.
The first episode will be available next week on the WMDE website and the
WIKIMOVE Meta page. <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WIKIMOVE>
Make sure to subscribe on Meta
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WIKIMOVE/Suscribe> to get notified for
each episode.
In 2017 our movement produced a strategic direction, and in 2020
recommendations were published that shed light on the changes that the free
knowledge movement will need to make to stay relevant and grow in size and
diversity. Change is never easy. We hope that the conversations in the
podcast will inspire people, and open up opportunities for thinking and
working together.
What will WIKIMOVE be about?
The topics we discuss will dance around the strategic direction, the
recommendations, the principles, the initiatives. But we will also look up
(or out) and examine larger issues and concepts from the knowledge
ecosystem or beyond that are relevant to the transformation of the
Wikimedia movement. By creating this space we hope to let the audience know
about the latest happenings, new ideas, present opportunities to
participate, contribute and provide feedback. We hope that new ideas are
born from the conversations and collaborations are kick-started.
What can you expect of WIKIMOVE ?
The show will be a space for respectful exchange and mutual support.
Looking into the future, optimistically, rather than complaining about the
past or present. While paying respect to the ‘old’ movement, critically
questioning colonial and unequitable systems, structures, policies,
narratives and habits. Shining a light on those who try new things, develop
innovations, whether they succeed or fail while doing so. Iteration,
ambiguity, and uncertainty are welcome. We especially welcome people with
questions, and don’t expect ready made solutions.
Who are the guests?
People who are working on 2030 initiatives, or are participating in our
governance reform, people who come from underrepresented communities,
people from other movements who have experiences and inspiration to share.
We aim to strengthen mutuality and solidarity and to show that there are
people inside and outside of our movement that have already developed
solutions for our challenges and questions.
Who are the hosts?
Nicole Ebber and Nikki Zeuner from Wikimedia Deutschland’s Movement
Strategy and Global Relations team will be hosting the show.
When can I hear this?
The first episode will be released next week, both as an audio podcast and
a shorter video version. It features Tochi Precious and Guillaume Paumier,
discussing knowledge as a service. Stay tuned!!!

Hello everyone,
We want to let you know about a new swag program for technical contributors
that the Wikimedia Foundation's Technical Engagement <
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Technical_Engagement> [1] team has
developed in collaboration with the Fundraising Operations <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising> [2] team. This program will
reward technical contributors for their active participation in outreach
programs, events, and software projects by giving swag.
This is a small token of appreciation for the countless efforts of our
technical contributors!
In the first year of its operation, the swag program considers 85
individuals with significant contributions as developers, mentors, and
organizers in 2021 for each of the following areas.
- Google Summer of Code & Outreachy
- Small wiki toolkits
- Gerrit code contributions
- Wikimedia & Wikimania Hackathon
To learn more about each of these areas and the overall program, visit <
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_tech_swag_program> [3]. If you
have any feedback or questions, or have suggestions around which areas to
cover, please share on the talk page.

Dear fellow Wikimedians,
We are happy to announce that applications for the innovation program
UNLOCK open from today – April 5th! We are calling for ideas and projects
that break down social and technical barriers preventing people from both
accessing and contributing to free knowledge.
In alignment with recommendation 9 “Innovate in free knowledge” [1] of the
Movement Strategy, we look for early stage projects that address knowledge
equity, including technical ones that make the access and contribution to
knowledge easier, more inclusive and equitable. We also look for
non-technical projects, concepts or standards that create more
opportunities for everyone to participate in free knowledge projects –
leading to a more inclusive representation of the diverse knowledge of our
world.
Participating teams will benefit from a structured online program with
tailored coaching, access to an international network of experts,
peer-to-peer exchange and a scholarship.
== Who is the program for? ==
We are looking for Wikimedians as well as free knowledge enthusiasts,
developers, designers and activists from outside the Wikimedia movement.
For this year’s edition, Wikimedia Deutschland teamed up with Wikimedia
Serbia to co-design and co-host the program which will have a regional
focus on the Western Balkan and German-speaking area. This means that
applications are open to project teams (of a minimum of two and no more
than five members) from the following countries: Albania, Austria,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia as well as
Serbia and Switzerland. The program language is English in order to enable
exchange and create synergies among the cross-regional project teams.
UNLOCK is designed to work completely virtually.
Applications are open from April 5th until May 29th!
== You want to apply? ==
Great – we look forward to your ideas! Please head over to the UNLOCK
program page [2] for details (incl. eligibility criteria, program timeline,
application form and more) If you require further assistance with your
application or if you have an idea but are not sure whether or not to
apply, feel free to reach out to the organizing team behind the program via
Email: unlock(a)wikimedia.de
== You know people who would be interested in this program? ==
Feel free to share this call in your network and community beyond the
mailing list.
Warm regards,
Kannika (WMDE) and Ivana (WMRS)

Dear Wikimedia Affiliates and Wikimedia Foundation representatives,
I am delighted to share that the Wikimedia Summit
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Summit_2022>[1] is going to take
place on September 9-11, 2022. It will be a hybrid event with both on-site
(Berlin) and remote participation. Wikimedia Deutschland is hosting the
event in close collaboration and with the financial support of the
Wikimedia Foundation.
== What to expect at the Wikimedia Summit ==
The Wikimedia Summit is the place for Affiliates and the Wikimedia
Foundation to come together to discuss and shape the future of the
Wikimedia Movement. The 2022 event will be designed around the
implementation of the 2030 Movement Strategy <http://2030.wikimedia.org>[2].
It will be a platform to advance the governance reform of the Wikimedia
Movement, aligned with the ongoing drafting process of the Movement Charter
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Movement_Charter/Drafting_Committee>[3].
It will also be a place to connect better the global, regional, and local
implementation of Movement Strategy programmatic initiatives. The event
will serve as a working meeting with room for facilitated discussions and
decisions. It will also provide space for connecting, celebrating,
learning, and planning for the future.
Any in-person part of a future event will have to deal with the fact that
international travel – including travel to Germany – has become even more
difficult or even impossible due to stricter health and visa regulations.
On top of that, there is an extremely high demand for conference venues,
hotels, and flights in September, which makes things less flexible on our
side.
The Wikimedia Summit 2022 will be a hybrid event with limited capacity
on-site in Berlin. The organizing team will make every effort to create an
inclusive, productive experience for both online and offline participants.
== Apply now to participate in the Summit! ==
This year, all Affiliate representatives will go through a short
application process to develop the list of attendees in a fair and
transparent way. Each Affiliate is eligible to participate, if they
are compliant
on reporting
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Affiliates_Data_Portal/Reports>[4],
and recognized by the Wikimedia Foundation before 31 March 2021. In order
to assign the limited on-site slots, each Affiliate’s engagement and
interest in Movement Strategy work will be considered.
Each Affiliate can send one representative. Affiliates with a full-time, paid
Executive Director
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Executive_Directors_Group>[5] get an
additional seat for that person.
In order to be able to pull the event off under these difficult
circumstances, your support and responsiveness is essential, as there will
be no exceptions to these deadlines.
Representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation (Board, staff, committees) will
go through a separate process for application and travel.
== Timeline and process ==
1.
Application period: April 4-17
For each eligible Affiliate, one representative participant can fill out
the application form
<https://wikimedia.sslsurvey.de/Application_Wikimedia_Summit_2022>[6].
Aside from questions around previous and future engagement in Movement
Strategy, some personal information, including possible travel restrictions
(visa, vaccination) to Germany is needed.
1.
Selection process: April 17-29
Applications will be reviewed by the Movement Strategy & Global Relations
team at WMDE as well as members of the Movement Strategy & Governance team
at the WMF and we will seek advice from additional members of our movement.
Answers provided will be published on Meta to create an overview of
Movement Strategy engagement, to indicate opportunities for exchange and
partnerships, and to create transparency in the application process. The
final invitation list will be announced on 29 April after a thorough review
of all applications.
1.
Registration period: May 2-13
In order to start as soon as possible with the travel management and the
design of our event program around the needs of the participants, the
registration window is very narrow. Please stick to the deadlines to make
sure the planning of the event can run smoothly; and already familiarize
yourself with the requirements for visa
<https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/visa-service/-/231148>[7] applications
as well as the COVID-19 restriction
<https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/visa-service/EinreiseUndAufenthalt>[8]
for entry into Germany.
1.
Travel management: May 15 - June 1
All Affiliate representative travel will be centrally managed via WMDE and
funded by the Wikimedia Foundation. Due to the complexity of creating the
hybrid event, increasing travel costs and overall restrictions and
limitations, exceptions or extensions to the deadlines cannot be made.
Although some of you might be eager to resume internal travels, extra
wishes, extensions, or detours on travel bookings cannot be fulfilled this
time.
== Questions? ==
You can read more about this process and its criteria on Meta
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Summit_2022>[9]. Please also use
the talk pages to leave your questions or comments, or reach out to the
organizing team at wmsummit(a)wikimedia.de.
Interested Affiliates are invited to join one of our Questions & Answers
sessions via zoom:
