Hi all
I wonder if there is anyone with experience in UploadCampaigns who could help us set up something for the UK, please? I had been fully intending to do this myself, but I fear that I am now rapidly running out of time, especially as I have no knowledge of this whatsoever and would have to learn it all from scratch. Unfortunately, my available time has been reduced by quite a lot recently following my wife's problematic eye surgery, and with family coming to stay with us next week things are not looking too promising for me to complete this before the competition is due to start.
I've asked for help from other UK volunteers, but without success, perhaps because we are all equally lacking in knowledge of this tool.
I and the rest of the UK team are happy to offer our undying thanks to the right person :)

Hello Michael & WLM UK,
It is my job to take care of all campaigns for Wiki Loves Monuments, including all related categories and templates. (I am also responsible for the CentralNotices.)
The campaign for WLM UK can be found and tested here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard?campaign=wlm-uk
All templates and system messages are available in English. If other languages are wanted, please let me know and follow these steps: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Upload_c...
I just updated the header for the UK campaign by adding the website. You can customize the header with adding more links if wished, as long as the general idea is kept. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Upload_campaign_header_wlm-uk/en
Images uploaded through the campaign are added to the category: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Cultural_heritage_monuments_in_th...
In general it is usual that (mostly) national authorities set up monument lists and assign unique identifiers to each specific monument they register to easy identification and often also enabling links to the website of the registering authority based on the identifier. We try have and use those identifiers for each country, we have several bots that do a lot of work purely based on this unique identifier. All files uploaded through the campaigns have this unique identifier on the file page to enable identification. This identifier is added to the file pages by the campaign and should be filled in there and a template needs to be created for that. Likely something like http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Cultural_Heritage_United_Kingdom based on for example http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Cultural_Heritage_Slovakia
Yesterday I was looking for lists of the UK but didn't see any IDs for monuments? Can you help me with that? Do monuments in the UK have unique identifiers?
I give an example of how this is done for Dutch monuments with a municipality in the Netherlands: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_rijksmonumenten_in_Aa_en_Hunze The last to columns of the table are for the unique identifier (header: "Nr.") and the picture. (In what order the cells are presented is up to the local community.) If there is no picture added, the row template automatically adds a link in that area (here in the last row: "Upload foto") which directly links to the upload campaign, with a link that automatically fills in the upload form with the unique identifier and coordinates. (More fields are possible, see: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Upload_c... )
Conclusion: everything is ready for the UK campaign, besides only one thing: the template for the unique identifiers and how uploaders should find that unique identifier.
If there are any questions or requests for changes, just let me know.
Greetings, Romaine

PS: I read on your website that there are four organisations that each have their own lists. I think this will result in creating four campaigns instead of one.
Scotland seems to have monument IDs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Category_A_listed_buildings_in_Aberdeen
For the other areas in the UK I can't find lists with unique identifiers. Another question, is the Isle of Man also part of the UK competition?
I think it would be good to have an online meeting with Skype or something to talk about the things that are needed. I will not be in Hong Kong, and I am available on most of the coming days. I think it is urgent to speak with each other.

Yes, that is the aim. The same for England and Wales. Each list will have unique identifers for the buildings, eg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_II*_listed_buildings_in_Swansea

Hi Romaine
The updating of the UK lists on en.W is in hand and all (perhaps except a few that are already featured lists) will use the WLM template. You can check detailed discussion and progress, if you like, on the WLM 2013 UK mailing list wlm2013-l@wikimedia.org.uk
My concern is the setup of the upload Wizard with the four separate campaigns you mentioned.
We should indeed talk, and I'd be happy to discuss by Skype. Could you make tomorrow afternoon or evening?

Yes, indeed. My reply was to indicate that that part is in hand by several volunteers. The lists on WP that don't currently include the official number are being changed now so that they use the proper WLM templates, with the unique number and some basic other official data included. Wales and Northern Ireland is pretty well done, and England is in progress.

Well as far as I understand it, each list with unique identifiers must then be connected up to the monuments database, which does not happen automatically, but is also done by hand. Then you can test the specific upload campaign that should work for a specific monument on one of these "connected" lists. Without this connection, then the upload wizard will not add the proper monument link. So as you complete the lists, these need to be added in. Do you have a list of lists that are done?

Well as far as I understand it, each list with unique identifiers must then be connected up to the monuments database, which does not happen automatically, but is also done by hand. Then you can test the specific upload campaign that should work for a specific monument on one of these "connected" lists. Without this connection, then the upload wizard will not add the proper monument link. So as you complete the lists, these need to be added in. Do you have a list of lists that are done?
2013/8/8, Michael Maggs Michael@maggs.name:
Yes, indeed. My reply was to indicate that that part is in hand by several volunteers. The lists on WP that don't currently include the official number are being changed now so that they use the proper WLM templates, with the unique number and some basic other official data included. Wales and Northern Ireland is pretty well done, and England is in progress.

Hi all
I wonder if there is anyone with experience in UploadCampaigns who could help us set up something for the UK, please?

The translations into Welsh are completed and are on Commons.
There are now two row templates for Scotland, I think that should be fixed and merged somehow: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:HS_listed_building_row https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:HB_Scotland_row
Greetings, Romaine
Hello Michael,
Yes I am available tomorrow, but also on many other days.
One campaign of these four is now ready: Wales, based on the monument lists. I also changed the link on the English Wikipedia, so that it links to the right campaign: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_I_listed_buildings_in_Anglesey
I will start with the other three as well.

I would prefer where possible to see a single campaign per country. The identifiers can be made unique by prefixing with the list instead. So it could be eg. “identifier Cadw-11210” instead of “identifier 11210 on Cadw upload campaign” There could be four campaigns, with all of them placing the same template (differenciating with a parameter, that'd still be much better than four different templates), but someone with photos from different lists would need to exit one campaign to change into another, instead of being able to upload them all from the same screen, which is unintuitive (plus a complexity when giving out instructions).

Hello Platonides,
I follow the system that Maarten started in the previous years: if there are different organisations, different campaigns are used. The UK is similar to Belgium. Belgium has three independent organisations, one for each of the regions, that are responsible for the monument lists. For each region/organisation we have a upload campaign. This is not without reason. If users follow the pre-filled links to the upload campaigns it will not be a problem, but if users visit a national campaign via other ways it is too difficult for them to select the right region (certainly not unintuitive but unnecessary complexity). The way how it in Belgium is set up is successful for two years already. Also we would like to be able to create easy links to the individual websites of the regional organisations.
Already the UK website has to link to 4 groups of lists and four organisations, it is not strange to have four upload campaigns as well. In Belgium people appear to be smart enough to find the right one, I really trust the UK people are smart enough too. This is not complexity, this is easy.
Besides some details the campaigns for the UK just came ready for testing, only minor changes are needed.

I agree with both of you - it would be nice to have one campaign per country, but technical restrictions limit us to at least one campaign per list-holder, where the list-holder is the one issuing the unique id.

Well England, Scotland, and Wales are all countries within the United Kingdom (also a country). It's a bit complicated.
Four campaigns is the way to go as the IDs are different for each country.
