Hey again,
I really liked the map we had at the former .EU site, and it seems we
lost it in the transition to the blog platform.
I've been experimenting (call it a revival) with the good-old image
maps, and I found a cool solution.
http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org.pt/testmap.php
(only Portugal and Spain work)
What do you think of including it somewhere?

I'd propose to you to use this tool:
http://www.image-maps.com/
Load this image:

And follow the instructions to plot your country. Then, click the option
to generate the map and send me only the HTML code <shape> so I can
merge it.

Hi all,
I am sending out a new message, since I feel this issue is pretty important
and impacts a lot of Wikipedia projects. The other issues that Bas addressed
also need follow up, but let's tackle these categories first.
This is the list of categories as they stand today on Commons in the top
level category (see the email from Bas):
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Andorra with known IDs
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Austria with known IDs
Category:Onroerend erfgoed with known IDs
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Brussels with known IDs
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Estonia (with known IDs)
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Hesse with known ID
Category:Rijksmonumenten with known IDs
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Portugal with known IDs
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Romania with known IDs
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Spain with known IDs
Category:Cultural heritage monuments in Wallonia with known IDs
I think only the Belgians and the Dutch have chosen their names well,
because they are using the terms that are covered by law in their country.
The other categories should be renamed to reflect the legal term in those
countries. My reasons are as follows:
1) The term "Cultural heritage monument" is not defined anywhere, in any
country's wikipedia.
2) We are using a formal designation that has been assigned by a government
agency and is covered by the European Council's international law on
cultural property. In order to refer to the proper designation, we need the
formal name of the designation.
3) The sub categories are going to have native names anyway, so why have a
strangely named top-level category that no one understands (including
English-speakers)?
4) When we make interwiki links to these things we should be consistent
across all countries.
I noticed a confusing situation has already occurred in the German
Wikipedia, where the top level category for the Austrian monuments is
"Kategorie:Liste (Kulturdenkmale in Österreich)", when I fully expected it
to be "Kategorie:Denkmalgeschütztes Objekte". On Commons I would expect
"Category:Denkmalgeschütztes Objekte with known IDs", and in the English
Wikipedia, I named it "Category:Denkmalgeschütztes Objekte".

Hi all,
Tomasz and I have found several companies who could print our t-shirts
at reasonable prices (5,50 Euro per Shirt).
My suggestion is to have black shirts with the wlm logo and url
(wikilovesmonuments.eu) on the front and the wikipedia logo on the
back (very small, right under the neck). I would use the same shirt
for all countries, without any specific dates and locations. What do
you think?
My questions:
* What are we planning to use the shirts for? Suggestions:
** as Prices
** for the "organisers" of local events
** for the attendees of local events
** shall we also offer the shirts on our websites for free orders or
even sell them there?
* How many shirts (and which sizes (m/w) would YOUR country need?
Would be best to order them altogether, that makes the prices cheaper.
* Where can we discuss and document this (mailinglist is not very
convenient)? Google sheet?
Best
Nicole

Hello all,
At the moment users from nl-wiki and fr-wiki are working together to organize Wiki Loves Monuments in Belgium. As Belgium itself has no chapter at the moment, we have asked Wikimedia France and Wikimedia Netherlands to help us out with the prices for the competition.
Today we noticed that Luxemburg is still missing on the map of countries who participate in joining Wiki Loves Monuments. The impression we got is that users from lb-wiki are interested, but as they have no chapter as well and as they are with little people, they do not think they can organize their own competition themselves. However, they do have all the monument-lists in Luxemburg already on lb-wiki. So we suggested today that Wiki Loves Monuments Belgium will cover the country Luxembourg as well so that the hole in the map can be filled in. That will give a combined competition in Belgium and Luxemburg together.
Wiki Loves Monuments Belgium will also cover the German-speaking parts of Belgium.
If there are people wanting to help us with our competition, please let us know, help is much appreciated! Thanks!
Greetings - Romaine
