Hi guys,
I haven't looked at the monuments api [1] that closely for a while so I
was pleasantly surprised when I took a good look at it yesterday and
noticed a lot of things were already implemented :-)
I want to do some follow ups after the May meeting [2]. I'm sending this
directly because I'm not sure all of you are keeping a close eye on the
Wiki Loves Monuments mailing list.
What features still need to be added and how do we make it easy for
everyone to make use of this api? I have some things:
* DynamicKML seems to work. Bit rough, but seems to be working in Google
Maps [3] and Earth
- Tim, can you try to get dynamickml [4] working in OpenStreetMap?
- Platonides, would it be possible to implement a sort by random?
That prevents clusters
* Raul implemented Layar [5]. Is this part of the api or on it's own
Raul? Can you maybe tell a bit more about this?
* I believe JSON(P) still needs to be implemented. That makes reuse
easier. Anyone?
* Joan has been working on HTML lists [6]. This might turn into an easy
tool to make lists of monuments you want to take a photo of. Keep us
posted Joan!
* api.wikilovesmonuments.eu seems to be a good domain to host this api
from. I'll see if I can get this setup at the toolserver
* gpx and poi also need to be implemented. Anyone?
(please add more points)
The goal of the api should be to provide a easy but powerful tool that
all countries can use. We're going in the right direction now.
Keep up the good work!
Maarten

Hi everyone,
because we're expecting quite some traffic in the next few days on
wikilovesmonuments.eu and it was running on a server that probably
couldn't handle that we've migrated to a new Wikimedia Nederland VPS.
The current VPS only runs wlm.be and wlm.eu and will probably be quite
capable of getting lots of traffic.
The DNS has already been changed so you should see the 'new' site in
60 minutes or so. Let me know if things look weird.

Hello all,
I noticed the Dutch speaking press in Belgium has taken it up. I totally miss the French and German speaking press, and also the Luxembourgian press, anyone who has send it to those media?
Can someone send our press release to those media?
See: http://www.wikilovesmonuments.be/w/index.php?title=Press
Greetings - Romaine
Hi everyone,
Now is the time to send out your press releases. Would be nice if
everyone could have send out their press releases before the weekend. We
just send out a press release in the Netherlands and also send out a
bunch of regionally targeted press releases in the Netherlands.
So start sending out emails. Start twittering. Start using Facebook. And
of course: Start sending in photographs tomorrow.
Below the email you'll find the European press release for some inspiration.

Wikimedia Volunteers from 15 European Countries Announce Wiki Loves
Monuments Pan-European Photo Contest
Netherlands, September 1, 2011--- Wiki Loves Monuments, a yearly
Wikimedia photo contest announces the first-ever pan-European contest to
be held this September in more than 15 countries throughout Europe.
Wikimedia invites anyone in the world to submit their best photos of
European buildings and monuments taken during the duration of the
contest. All photos will be made freely available for use on Wikipedia
and Wikimedia Commons.
“Europe has hundreds of thousands of monuments, most of which still have
no freely-available images on the internet, and aren't available on
Wikipedia” said Lodewijk Gelauff, one of the organizers of the European
contest. “It’s our goal to change this. Wikimeda’s ultimate goal is to
make all information freely available to everyone in the world, and
images of Europe’s important cultural structures are needed to complete
this mission.”
Information about European cultural heritage is an important part of
Wikipedia and images of many important cultural structures in Europe are
not available on Wikipedia for the 400 million readers who use Wikipedia
all over the world. Wikimedia organizers invite people of all ages and
backgrounds to take part and help provide images of European monuments
and buildings for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. The European Heritage
Days organized throughout Europe in September are a good opportunity to
take photos.
The contest is inspired by the successful 2010 pilot conducted in the
Netherlands, which resulted in 12,500 freely-licensed images of
monuments and buildings now freely available to be used in Wikipedia and
by anybody in the world.
"We are excited that Wiki Loves Monuments is being organized in so many
countries, and is supported by international organizations such as the
Council of Europe, the European Commission, Europeana and Europa
Nostra,” says Gelauff.
Wiki Loves Monuments runs throughout the entire month of September and
is organized in independent national contests. Participation is open to
anyone interested in taking part. Participants can go to the contest
website and register. Winning images from regional contests will then be
submitted to the pan-European Jury. More information about the contest
and how to enter can be found at: www.wikilovesmonuments.eu

About Wikimedia
Wikimedia is the movement behind Wikipedia, supporting the same goals on
realizing a world where all knowledge is freely available for every
human being. This is possible through an American foundation and a
network of national associations which co-operate closely with the
volunteers on the Wikimedia projects, such as Wikipedia.
About Wikipedia
Wikipedia and the other projects operated by the Wikimedia Foundation
receive more than 390 million unique visitors per month, making them the
5th most popular web property world-wide (May, 2011). Available in more
than 270 languages, Wikipedia contains more than 18 million articles
contributed by a global volunteer community of more than 100,000 people.
Hi all,
please make sure that
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/Press
contains
a link to your press contacts for this contest in your country, and also a
link to the relevant press release. If you have multiple press releases,
please link them on one page and link to that.
Thank you,
Lodewijk
Hi everyone,
I was just working on the central notice. The slogan we have in Dutch
is: "Wiki Loves Monuments: Fotografeer een monument voor Wikipedia en
win!". In English this translates to "Wiki Loves Monuments: Photograph a
monument, help Wikipedia and win!" Is this a good slogan? Do you have a
better one?
So how is the central notice thing going to work? We have one European
central notice banner. This banner has the slogan translated in as many
languages as possible. This banner will get cloned for all the countries
which have their own website. The only difference with the European
banner is that it now links to the local website. The European website
will be enabled for all European countries that don't have their own
banner. For the other countries the local banner will be enabled.
So we have one slogan per language, but we do have different banners
depending on the country.
My plan is to enable all the banners on Saturday the 3th. Why not
Wednesday? Gives us some time to clear small errors before we get the
huge group of new users.

Hei!
In addition to Raul's notes. Campaign name should be
"wml-ee", shouldn't it? 'et' is a language code and 'ee' is a
country code. ID-field name should be "Mälestise registrinumber" (two
words).
