Wikimedia & Education enthusiasts,
The Wikipedia & Education User Group Board (Filip, Susanna, João, Ziko,
Bukola, and myself) along with our co-hosts Wikimedia Serbia and
co-organizer Sailesh from the WMF education team, want to extend another
thank you to all of you who attended the EduWiki Conference, either
virtually or in person, in late May! We've been busy recovering from all
the organizing and then creating our next steps. We have a few important
updates for you:
==Future of Wikimedia & Education research==
Thanks to those of you who participated in the "Future of Wikimedia &
Education" track discussions in Belgrade, as well as those of you who did
Zoom-based interviews with Cornelius, in an effort to create a shared
definition of our corner of the Wikimedia & Education movement and identify
the needs we as program leaders have. Cornelius is putting the finishing
touches on his research report, which we'll be adding to Meta in the
coming weeks. We invite everyone to attend the next Open Meeting of the
Wikipedia & Education User Group, where he will present his findings.
When: Monday, July 24, at 16:00 UTC (see in your time here:
https://zonestamp.toolforge.org/1690214426)
Where: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83136491310
Please join us!
==Videos from the EduWiki Conference==
We've uploaded videos from all sessions that agreed to be recorded on our
YouTube channel here:
https://www.youtube.com/@EduWikiUG/videos
Unfortunately, the Video2Commons tool is broken, but once it's fixed, we'll
port them all over to Commons so they're available there as well!
==Next EduWiki Conference==
Many people are eagerly awaiting our next EduWiki Conference! If your group
is serious about wanting to host a future one (Wikimedia Serbia, our
excellent hosts this year, dedicated *significant* staff time to hosting
this event, so keep that in mind), please reply to this email offlist to
let me know. We're aiming to have it in October 2024 and will need to
submit our conference grant application within the next two months. We have
a strong preference for a non-European location, since our last two events
have been in Europe, to ensure regional diversity, but we welcome interest
from other European countries for future events.
==User Group updates==
A few other quick notes:
* We had a lot of membership applications for our user group -- very
exciting! We'll be updating the Meta page soon to include all our new
members.
* We're working on a re-launch of our Mentorship Program; stay tuned for
details!
On behalf of the Wikipedia & Education User Group Board,
LiAnna

Hi everyone! I would like to ask if any of you know secondary schools that have successfully forked or adapted Wikimedia projects through the use of these valuable resources worldwide. I would appreciate your answer. Cheers!
Hi folks! I'm passing on this message on behalf of Shashwat, one of
the fantastic interns working on the Dashboard right now.
TLDR: he's looking for people who use or want to use the Dashboard to
track edits to specific sets of pages, to demo his designs for making
it easier and to learn what your use cases are.

Hi everyone!
I'm Shashwat, currently an intern working with Wiki Education on the
Dashboard. My project for this summer revolves around Article Scoped
Programs on the Programs & Events Dashboard
and how they can be improved. In a nutshell, Article Scoped Programs
lets you track edits to only a set of pages rather than every edit
made by a participant. These “sets of pages” are created using a
variety of scoping methods available on the Dashboard, namely
individually assigned articles, templates, categories, PetScan
queries, or PagePiles.
My goal is to create a new user interface for these scoping methods to
make them more intuitive to use and simplify how users select which
articles the Dashboard should track.
I currently have a basic prototype built and would love to hear your
feedback on it. This way, I can prioritize features which would be
most appreciated by program organizers and can also make sure that the
project is going in the right direction.
If any of you would be interested in chatting over a zoom meeting
about this, please let me know. I welcome any input or feedback that
you might have.
You can contact me over email(shashwatkhanna312(a)gmail.com) and we can
go from there.
Thanks
Shashwat
The EduWiki Conference kicks off Friday in Belgrade, Serbia. We have a
great program full of experienced education program leaders learning and
sharing. We had significantly more interest in the conference than we had
slots available for attendance, so we're pleased to be able to offer live
streaming of two rooms on our YouTube channel.
The program is here:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/EduWiki_Conference_2023/Program
* note: Times in the program are local to Belgrade, CEST or UTC+2. Remember
to convert to your own time zone!
The streaming links are available here:
https://www.youtube.com/@EduWikiUG/streams
Note, we are streaming from two rooms (Atrium & Forum); please consult the
schedule to identify which room you'd like to watch. A handful of sessions
will not be streamed due to presenters' requests; for those, you will not
see the camera icon on the session listing.
Enjoy!
The EduWiki Conference 2023 Organizing Committee
Hello everyone!
I hope this message finds you well.
As a follow-up, I would like to invite all the participants who attended my
presentation *"Merging Data Science Techniques to Enhance the Quality of
Wikipedia Education Programs" *during Wiki Edu Conference/Belgrade to share
your feedback by taking a brief post presentation survey. Your input is
crucial in helping me improve future sessions and ensure that I continue to
provide content that aligns with your interests and needs.
To access the survey, please click on the following link:

Thank you for your time and help, looking forward to reading your valuable
feedback.

Hello again folks!
I'll be holding a Zoom office hours session on May 30, at 17:00 UTC
(10 am Pacific time).
Details and meeting link can be found here:
https://diff.wikimedia.org/event/programs-events-dashboard-office-hours-3/
If you have questions or want help with using the Dashboard, or if you
have anything else Dashboard-related that you'd like to discuss, this
will be a good time to ask them.
You'll also have a chance to meet one or more of the summer interns
working on the Dashboard.
Cheers,
Sage Ross
Wiki Education
Hi all -
My colleague Brett and I (cc'd) are interested in exploring capacity-building among professional associations, for instance, engaging and encouraging both academic and professional organizations to share professional expertise / knowledge in Wikipedia.
Does anyone know of existing initiatives already attempting to do this kind of work (or something similar?? Either at the level of the individual professional organization or at a broader level of trying to bring together multiple associations/organizations together to encourage Wikimedia engagement.
Feel free to respond off-list or on. Thanks!
