Hey everyone,
Hope the month of July is going well! We have some updates for you. We’ve
been holding Office Hours for the past 11 months, and have engaged with
more than 40 Wikimedians during that time. We’ve enjoyed chatting about
topics ranging from the usefulness of Wikiversity to how best to support
students who edit on mobile phones. Though Office Hours have been
reasonably well attended, we’ve noticed that it may be more useful to
slightly restructure this time. From July, we’ll be hosting only one open
Office Hours event, while experimenting with a way to deep dive with
individuals who need more 1:1 consulting.
While the monthly Office Hours event will remain the same, we are excited
to introduce Office Space. Our goal for Office Space is to provide 1:1
consultation to Wikimedians involved in education activities. As a result
of Office Space, we hope individuals and groups interested in Wikimedia in
education will have better capacity to make their initiatives strong,
results oriented and scalable.
Office Hours will be an open platform for The Wikimedia Foundation
Education Team to hear from the community, share what we’re doing and
answer questions in an open forum where we can learn from each other. The
platform provides an opportunity to share your work with others and learn
from them, get updates from activities happening around the movement and
look for opportunities to collaborate.
Office Space will be a platform where you can schedule a 1:1 consultation
with one or more members of the education team. We’re setting aside 4.5
hours of team time a month for ½ hour or 1 hour consultations. This will
help you get answers to specific questions, and tap into the various
expertise of the Wikimedia Foundation Education Team. We will start
hostingOffice Space events from the month of August. We will triage
incoming requests based on when they were received, and the nature of the
request. We hope that through this mechanism our support to the community
is fair and productive.
>From August, the Education Team will host one Office Hours and one Office
Space each month for the Wikimedians involved in education activities or
are interested in them. We will be announcing Office Hours events on
the Wikimedia
Space <https://discuss-space.wmflabs.org/tags/c/events/education> and will
update the Office Hours events and the minutes of meeting there.
You can sign up for a 1:1 Office Space consultation for August! Just fill
out the form here: http://bit.ly/2xHwwOz
Do you have queries related to this? Feel free to reach out to me via email

Best!

Not that I know. From what I've seen, Moodle is usually provided by
local partner institutions such as universities.
For the same reason, Wikimedia Italia at some point was planning to use
OpenEdx, because that's what our partner university was using. Our
feeling was that it's better to ride on the critical mass and teaching
experience of an existing entity at least for a few years, but others
may have different experiences.
I'm not sure this answers your question. Are you looking for a Moodle
instance to use for a teaching project of yours?

Greetings from the Wikipedia and Education User Group.
We are delighted to bring to you the Working Groups of the Wikipedia &
Education User Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_%26_Education_User_Group/Get_invo…>[1].
These groups comprise people who are interested in working in various focus
areas related to Wikimedia & Education - Mentorship, Resource Development,
Tech Infrastructure, and Global Outreach. These working groups work in
their focus areas to help the global EduWiki community in their ongoing
work and further development. We will be launching these working during
Wikimania 2019, where we will be having more details on this.
However, owing to the needs of technology in our work, we would like to
launch the “Tech Infrastructure Working Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_%26_Education_User_Group/Working_…>”[2]
at the earliest possible.
This group aims to prioritize technological tools for scaling educational
initiatives across the movement. The members of the group are uniquely
qualified to identify gaps in tools that will help us run educational
programs. They will work together to identify needs, prioritize tool
development, and manage that process. The group will also provide
recommendations on securing funding to develop tech resources, and also
advocate at various organizational levels to bring the necessary technical
infrastructure to reality.
The group, as its first project will be working on a global survey that is
to be commissioned by the user group in the coming weeks. The survey will
be focused on identifying the tech needs of the EduWiki community, more
specific to the Program and Events Dashboard. This survey will serve a base
for further development work in this area.
In this context, I would like to invite interested community members to
sign up to be members of this group on the Meta-Wiki page[2] of the group.
Expected time commitment is 3-4 hours a week.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks and regards,
Krishna Chaitanya

Dear Wikimedia education community,
The Wikimedia Foundation Education Team is excited to announce we've
finalized the selection process for the Wikimedia Education Greenhouse! We
received 15 applications
<https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/Greenhouse#Team_Applications>
for
innovative and compelling projects from all around the world. Just being
part of this brave and creative cohort is an accomplishment, and we would
like to thank each and every team that applied.
We’ve selected the Open Education Community Program
<https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/Greenhouse/teamsubmissions/Op…>
for
the first iteration of the Greenhouse, and specifically their Technology
and Green Mentorship Program. Their commitment to outreach in rural
communities, gender equality, youth skills development, and small languages
were determining factors in this decision.
Please join us in congratulating the selected team, and thanking all those
who applied. You are all amazing!
