Greetings from the Wikipedia and Education User Group.
We are delighted to bring to you the Working Groups of the Wikipedia &
Education User Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_%26_Education_User_Group/Get_involved!#Working_Groups>[1].
These groups comprise people who are interested in working in various focus
areas related to Wikimedia & Education - Mentorship, Resource Development,
Tech Infrastructure, and Global Outreach. These working groups work in
their focus areas to help the global EduWiki community in their ongoing
work and further development. We will be launching these working during
Wikimania 2019, where we will be having more details on this.
However, owing to the needs of technology in our work, we would like to
launch the “Tech Infrastructure Working Group
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_%26_Education_User_Group/Working_Groups/Tech_infrastructure>”[2]
at the earliest possible.
This group aims to prioritize technological tools for scaling educational
initiatives across the movement. The members of the group are uniquely
qualified to identify gaps in tools that will help us run educational
programs. They will work together to identify needs, prioritize tool
development, and manage that process. The group will also provide
recommendations on securing funding to develop tech resources, and also
advocate at various organizational levels to bring the necessary technical
infrastructure to reality.
The group, as its first project will be working on a global survey that is
to be commissioned by the user group in the coming weeks. The survey will
be focused on identifying the tech needs of the EduWiki community, more
specific to the Program and Events Dashboard. This survey will serve a base
for further development work in this area.
In this context, I would like to invite interested community members to
sign up to be members of this group on the Meta-Wiki page[2] of the group.
Expected time commitment is 3-4 hours a week.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks and regards,
Krishna Chaitanya
