PDF is proprietary? But Free PDF readers and writers exist.
PDF is an open format. Anybody can implement a writer or reader because
the document standard is published. It is only proprietary in the sense
that the Java language is proprietary. I believe there are some html-pdf
document translators available. It isn't difficult.
