The bug's in your editor, I'm afraid. Wiki syntax doesn't cross linebreaks. For one thing, this helps contain damage from Markup Gone Mad; a lone opening tag that isn't closed turning an entire page into gibberish.
It's easy to detect those Markup Gone Mad occurrences; thus I'd like to ask to be friendly to Unix editing conventions, too.
The bug listed above on http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/User%3AKeichwa is more serious, BTW. Wikipedia's to-HTML converter happily add many a lot <p> elements when you comment out some lines; cf. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabische_Sprache where this happens:
