It is developing contexts for that project, such as the dialectic audio pronunciation files, WOTD, and (probably in a future release) a rich interface to the translation data embedded in Wiktionary articles. At the same time, it is removing some of the Wikipedia context, like the extensive geographic code. In the process the project is helping to lay a foundation for a Mediawiki app framework that is not specific to any of the Wikimedia Foundation projects. But the UCOSP is primarily about putting students in an opensource production scenario, giving them real world tasks in an apprenticeship model and helping them develop skills to work in a geographically dispersed team. UBY - A Large-Scale Unified Lexical-Semantic Resource (UBY 1.0) released

(apologies for X-posting) We are pleased to announce the release of UBY 1.0 - a large-scale lexical-semantic resource for natural language processing (NLP) based on the ISO standard Lexical Markup Framework (LMF): http://www.ukp.tu-darmstadt.de/data/uby/ UBY combines a wide range of information from expert-constructed and collaboratively constructed resources for English and German. Currently, UBY holds structurally and semantically interoperable versions of nine resources in two languages: * English WordNet, Wiktionary, Wikipedia, FrameNet and VerbNet, * German Wikipedia, Wiktionary and GermaNet, and multilingual OmegaWiki. A subset of these resources is linked at the word sense level. There are monolingual sense alignments between VerbNet–FrameNet and VerbNet–WordNet as well as between WordNet–Wikipedia and WordNet–Wiktionary. In addition, UBY provides cross-lingual sense alignments between WordNet and German OmegaWiki, also including the inter-language links given in Wikipedia and OmegaWiki. All resources in UBY are represented according to our LMF lexicon model, UBY-LMF. UBY-LMF captures lexical information at a ﬁne-grained level by employing a large number of Data Categories from ISOCat. Highlights of UBY: * The union of a wide range of heterogeneous resources in a single, standardized resource. * The linking at the word sense level between a subset of the resources. UBY is complemented by a Java API, the UBY-API, and conversion tools (e.g., for converting the resources to UBY-LMF). The UBY API and conversion tools are available at Google Code: http://code.google.com/p/uby/ Highlights of the UBY-API: * Unified access to the various information types in the nine resources. * Easy cross-resource access to the various information types in the resources. Submissions that can provide measurable benefits of employing linked data over traditional methods are preferred. Note that the call is not limited to any domain or target group. We accept submissions ranging from value-added business intelligence use cases to scientific networks to the longest tail of information domains. The only strict requirement is that the employment of linked data is very well motivated and also justified (i.e. we rank approaches higher that provide solutions, which could not have been realised without linked data, even if they lack technical or scientific brilliance). [ANN] wiktionary.dbpedia.org online - Linked Data, SPARQL and Dumps

Hi lists, we are proud to announce that we now host the data we extract from wiktionary publicly on wiktionary.dbpedia.org. We offer Linked Data: http://wiktionary.dbpedia.org/resource/word a SPARQL endpoint: http://wiktionary.dbpedia.org/sparql and N-Triple Dumps: http://downloads.dbpedia.org/wiktionary/ There is also a wiki explaining some details: http://wiki.dbpedia.org/Wiktionary/ We currently extracted data from the English and German Wiktionary (28M triples and 3.7M triples), but plan to extend that to at least the biggest 5 wiktionaries within the next weeks, as our approach focuses on extendability. The data for each word is structured hierarchically (as wiktionary is) and contains information about language, part of speech, definitions, translations, synonyms, hyperonyms and hyponyms etc. There might be some quality issues, but we want to release early, so bear with us and report major problems. Thanks goes to the wiktionary community which does a great job creating this dataset, and we hope to enable new use cases and consequently promote the contribution to the wiktionary project.
