Hoi,
A merry Christmas from Almere in the Netherlands :).
On the Italian wiktionary we have a project to collect as many
translations and soundfiles as possible for the phrase "Buon Natale e
felice Anno Nuovo!" or "Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!". We have
already many translations but many are sadly missing. For this project I
have had people originally from Armenia and Iran at home to add their
contributions. I had twice a nice evening drinking tea :) and talking
about languages and culture. Christmas in Armenia for instance is on the
6th of Januari not on the 7th or the 25th of December :) this results in
the phrase needing to be turned around; Happy New Year and a Merry
Christmas.
The project aims to promote Commons, sound files, .ogg, wiktionary and
yes, we wish everyone a merry christmas in the spirit of friendship.
Today, we have had several peoplecontribute to the Italian project and
the Dutch sister page. I am happy to say that we now have the first
Bengalese in the Italian wiktionary as a result. There were also
corrections in the spelling and phrasing of Icelandic and Slavic
languages. Really, to me this is the Christmas spirit in action :) The
cool thing of the wikimedia projects is that this cooperation, this
working together is not restricted to the christmas perios and, that is
the good news. If we can extend this cooperation far and wide, who knows
what the world will be like in ten years of wikimedia..
So have a merry day and, I am thankfull for all the good things that we
do together.
Gerard

The last time Special:Wantedpages was cached [sometime in the past
day, since the Wikipedia upgrade], it seems to have been done in reverse,
sorting from fewest links to most links.
Is that expected behavior now, or did something unusual happen?

All right, I found one thing:
The page that was at Wiktionary:Recentchanges (which on en: for example
was a list of useful links, and a short list of requested articles) has been
superseded by MediaWiki:Recentchangestext.
Now, you help me. :p It used to be that a few wiktionaries edited
MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning to allow users to click and insert necessary
special characters... but it seems it is no longer possible to insert the script
(/style/wikibits.js) to allow this. Is there a workaround, or a better way to do
it now, or will it just have to revert to a copy-and-paste plain-text list?

Hoi,
I have been uploading LOADS of soundfiles to Commons. I would like to
have more people upload soundfiles to Commons. The big thing people hate
to do is the uploading itself. They are willing to record in .ogg they
are willing to make it conform to the naming convention but the
uploading and the subsequent copyright message is disliked to the extend
that people are not willing to do it.
Given the functionality that already exists in the pywikipediabot, it
should not be too difficult to have a directory with files conforming to
xx.word.ogg (xx is the ISO-639 code, word is the word or phrase) and
upload them to Commons. I use the following message for copyright:
eigen opname. GerardM
GFDL

Eigen opname: could be changed to Own recording:
Farsi is the ISO-639 for fa (Persian).
Please let me know if this is possible and, if you are willing to create
this bot for us.
Thanks,
GerardM
New pages on la: are not appearing properly. The last two pages I made,
(Californium, Cerium), upon submitting, returned me to the
this-page-has-no-text message; the page is still empty upon reload,
though the edit is listed in recentchanges. Going back to the edit and
submitting again creates the page properly, though this edit does not
appear in recentchanges.

Hoi,
As a consequence of the request on this list I have asked the developers
to change the capitalisation for hu hr and sw (Hungarian, Croatian and
Swahili) They were so good to do this :)
Thanks to jeronim for doing the deed :)
Thanks,

Hoi,
At the moment we have several BIG categories in use in many
wiktionaries. There are even bigger categories in wikipedia. The w:de:
Mann directory for instance has over 22.000 articles ... The problem is
that at this moment they break the capacity of the servers to cope.
Therefore there are temporary restrictions on the size of what is shown
in a category.
This means that for instance the wikt:nl:Categorie:Woorden in het
Nederlands will not show all its entries. As this is temporary and as
the developpers are working for a proper solution, there is no need to
change the way we work. We just need to wait for the developpers to come
up with a solution.
There is also no need to pester the developpers about this one; they ARE
working on it.
Thanks,
GerardM
