Hello all, it's my pleasure to give you 2 good news. The first one is that our survey has reached more than 100 responses: we didn't expect this result, and I'm personally very happy about that. This means few things: * that you should check again that the survey has been wel promoted in your language Wikisource. I don't know how many of you follow the Wikimedia blog, but few days ago we got posted: http://blog.wikimedia.org/2013/10/15/october-report-on-wikisource/ The good thing is that the survey link was there so right now we have more than 70 surveys completed. The bad thing is that many wikisources did not propmote the survey in their village pump/sitenotice. Could you please check your own Wikisource and paste the link? https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6taoDVAWcg6vSIZ English, German, Spanish sources don't have it. I can't check myself Ukranian, Russian, Hebrew and Hindi though. Aubrey

Aubrey, you might want to change "Wikisource should accept user translations?" to "Should Wikisource accept user translations?". Everything else is good. Congratulations! I volunteer to translate it into Italian. Where can I write the translation? Erasmo

Wikisource survey

Dear all, this is the survey finally implemented on Qualtrics: https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_6taoDVAWcg6vSIZ I'd like to receive the last round of feedbacks from you: you can actually do the survey, but keep in mind that if we edit it afterwards the results will be probably lost (as they get invalid if I edit the structure of the survey). So do at your own risk, you might need to do it again :-) At the moment, I think the survey will be just in English. It can be translated, but since the answers and feedbacks are coming to slowly, me and David can't really wait too much, as the deadline of our IEG is coming (end of October, but we asked for an extension). The issue is that we really want some results to write a final report which consider all the gathered data: in our opinion it would be much more effective. Our final report would ask the WMF and other Chapters or institutions to fund software development for Wikisource, and the survey is aimed, among other things, to decide *where* to direct those funds (if we will ever get those). But here's the deal: if you think the survey should be translated (that means that you like it, and you think it's a good opportunity for Wikisource community to reflect on itself), and volunteer for translating it in the next week, we could do that together. In our opinion, the survey itself could be linked from the sitenotice in every Wikisource, but that will be a decision of the community. We really hope you believe this is a great opportunity for everyone is interested in Wikisource's future. Aubrey

My answers: Q: Currently you are using an individual engagement grant, what about the future when the grant has finished or spent? How you will fund your UG?A: The UG does not need funding per se. As explained in the "Transforming words into action" section of the UG page, only some projects will require monetary support. When money is needed, grants can be used. Q: I want to know if you are thinking in future. Are you thinking in a kind of organization for your UG like a proposal of Board, structure or membership requirements for WS UG?A: Not yet. Personally, the UG will be primarily a means for discussion. Wikisource language communities should interact more.If organization is needed, I propose the election of three or four leaders. If membership requirements are needed, I propose the following ones. "You can join the UG if you have made 15+ (fifteen or more) edits to Wikisource _and_ your first one dates back to 5+ (five or more) days ago." Q: Until now Aubrey and Micru are the most active in the UG, what about the rest of supporters? Are they really involved? Are there real-life activities to involve them? Have any plan for a future face-to-face meeting?A: You can find me online, though I could not currently take part in any real-life activity or meeting. Discussions are among my favorite activities. I'd sometimes like more radical decisions instead of having legacy around. "Don't be afraid of innovations" could/will be one of the UG's principles. Erasmo
