People say that "Wiki" is derived from the Hawai'ian word wikiwiki. However, I have an inside source that says that Ward Cunningham got it from an unabridged dictionary. "Wiki" or "Wicky" is from the Anglo-Saxon "wici", which comes from the Proto-Germanic root "*hveik-", which is from the Proto-Indo-European root "*weigh-"
...which as any viewer of "The Beiderbecke Affair" can attest, has survied to this day as the war-cry of the Nukey-Brown brigade:
"Away the lads!"
...which basically means, in polite terms, "let's go chaps!", usually in preparation for some sort of fight, except in the above mentioned program where it was used as an expression of sexual ecstasy, which annoyed the protagonist's girlfriend no end since she naturally expected his mind to be on things other than football at sensitive moments.
Then again, to a native of Newcastle, the two are closely related :-)
