I would submit that to the bug tracker again because that is a major bug and maybe something for the usability project to aim for.
You'd need to propose some alternative syntax to put an interwiki link on a page of these sites and make sure it doesn't conflict with some other feature on any project.
I don't mean to be cold but this is what would have to do in order to avoid getting the same response.
