I know the Wikipedia itself is open source, but is the software for the Wikipedia engine open source? (Another project I'm involved with is discussing using a wiki-style engine to improve its documentation.)
Yes, our softwrae is open source, GNU GPL all of it. It would be great if others wanted to use it, but...
- We develop with an eye toward our own (content) project, not as a
general-purpose wiki software. Much of what we do may or may not make sense in other content-contexts.
- Since we're developing for our own use, we haven't paid much
attention to making the software nice to install, etc.
The person in question specifically said they liked the Wikipedia engine, so I asked, and have passed on the information. I was surprised to see the interest, myself--I don't think they need anything on this scale.
