I second Magnus's desire. 'Recent Changes' is self-explanatory, and has a long history with us. It's also shorter.
- In the bottom line, you have "Wikipedia Home" and "About Wikipedia". That could be streamlined a bit.
Right, I think 'Home' and 'About' are widely used on the web to such an extent that people will know what they mean: the home page of *this* site, and 'about' *this* site. Saying 'wikipedia' again is redundant, I think.
- How about a link in the bottom line saying "Edit this page"? Just to drive the point home. Most new arrivals won't click on a boring "About" link, but "Edit this page" sure sounds interesting...
I agree that 'Edit this page' should be prominent. In the early days, we made it more prominent by saying "<i>You</i> can edit this page right now!" or something like that. This is the most important thing for newcomers to know, I think. :-)
- Similarly, in the side bar, I'd change "Edit page" to "Edit this page", because that's the real surprising part. Not only can you edit *a* page, like you can on many sites, but you can edit *this very* page.
Yes! That's the astonishing thing about wikipedia. The people running it must be crazy. *I* can edit *this page* right *now*? No way! Let me try that... oh, hey, it works... :-)
