It creates some problems with editing. If you change your mind and want [[England]] to be an article of its own instead of #EQUALS [[Great Britain]], where do you click to edit? One way could be to give the article text an ID number, so that both names refer to the same article number (in Unix, a hard link associates the filename with the file content's inode number). When that article is displayed, at the top of the page you list all its names as "synonyms" to the name in the URL, with an edit link next to each name, separate from the edit link to the article itself. This is quite a different system from what we have today.
