Hi,
We have proposed Gileki language. And so far We have received good amount of supportive comments. I have some questions regarding this matter though
1-How many supporters are enough to proceed to the next steps?
2-Do we need to request a wikitionary too? or this project will be available when the domain of Gileki wikipedia is ready?
3- There are two dialects that are slightly different. But the native speakers can recognize which one is what they are listening to and the other is strange( sometimes funny!!) for them, but of course they understand it. What is the best solution to this issue? I am sure there have been many similar cases before. I would be gratefull to learn from other folks experiences.
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi,
The setting up of a wikipedia in the Novial language was approved in mid
May:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Approved_requests_for_new_languages#Novial
The contributors then agreed to suspend activity until the real wikipedia be
created.
May I ask what the situation is with making new language wikipedias? As far
as I can tell no new ones have been created since then.
Thanks,
nov_ialiste

Is Wikipedia:Verifiability an official policy only on the English
Wikipedia, or on Wikipedias in all languages?
Does it need to be approved by local community?

Sorry for the late notice, but this may be interesting to folks on this list.
I will be hosting a live Skypecast of a conversation/interview with
Brad Patrick and Danny Wool of the Wikimedia Foundation on Friday,
August 25, 2006 at 11 am EST. All are welcome to join (using Skype),
and also to chime in with questions. Find details on the Skypecast
here.
Full details:

LONG: I'm in St. Petersburg, Florida, as part of research on a book
about Wikipedia, and wanted to interview both Brad and Danny. I
figured, why don't we do a "radio-like" show with us in the Wikimedia
Foundation offices, and community members can chime in as well? Brad
Patrick is the general counsel and interim executive director of the
WMF, and Danny Wool is a longtime Wikipedian and holds the position of
grants officer. Among the things we'll discuss (but we want audience
participation):
What does the WMF office do? Who are the people in the office?
What is the difference between Wikimedia and Wikipedia?
What happens on a day to day basis in the office?
Where are the Wikimedia servers?
What can the WMF staff do to help the Wikimedia projects?
What are the challenges for the future for WMF?
Please feel free to add comments/questions here, or listen live via
Skype and you can "Request the microphone" just like a radio call-in
show. We will try to let as many participants chime in.
The time was chosen so that it occurs when most folks are awake - 11pm
in East Asia, 9pm in Moscow, 4/5pm in Europe, 11am in Eastern US, 8am
in Western US. If you cannot join online, I plan to make a podcast
available.
Caveat: This is the first Skypecast we're hosting so please be patient
if at 11am we are still working out some kinks.
This is a subscription site, but perhaps some nl: folks can report the
stats?

On the Dutch wikipedia there is a user who is constantly using my real
name in discussions instead of my wikiname. Although my real name is
widely known, I do not wish that it is used on the wiki in discussions.
One of the reasons is Google's indexing the other reason is my real name
is known only by people who have been on the wiki for a long time.
I am using my wiki alternate name for a reason. I feel that this user is
violating my privacy by constantly using my real name instead of the
name under which I edit. Is this a violation of our wiki privacy policy?

For the last days, I've been hacking on a C++ - based demo platform for
both a wikipedia offline reader and new tools to use with wikipedia
content. I've euphemistically dubbed it "Wikipedia 2010" ;-)
I hope that people will use it as a platform to test new feature ideas
that are too complex or graphics-dependent to go on the web. Internally,
it offers many useful functions like getting links, categories, etc.,
local caching incuded. I also hope that it could become a wikipedia
offline reader in the future.
Screenshots, Source, Windows and Mac executables are at

Attention: This is *not* supposed to be usable software in any way! At
least, not yet. Also, I could probably have it implemented in C#, or as
an AJAX application. But I wanted a fast, easy-to-install software, and
so it's C++ with wxWidgets.
I will check it into SVN later today, if there are no objections.
