Hi.
Someone recently asked me about the Wikimedia Foundation's installation of
Mingle (<https://mingle.corp.wikimedia.org/>) and when I went to find
documentation about it, I came up dry.
I started a page in the most logical place I could think of:
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mingle>. It's a very barebones page at the
moment. If anyone who's familiar with Mingle (particularly the Wikimedia
Foundation's use of it) could glance at or improve the page, that would be
great!

I don't know if there will be an official survey, but beceause nobody
had created it yet, and until everyone has things fresh in their memory,
I've started a feedback page listing the main topics from previous
years'. Please list all your thoughts!

Dear all,
At its 11 July board meeting, the Board of Trustees passed a resolution
rescinding its previous direction to implement the personal image hiding
feature.
The resolution is online at
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Resolution:_Personal_Image_Hiding_Featu…
We are working on a Q&A document that will be published after Wikimania.
The following is the resolution's text:
"In May 2011, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees unanimously passed
a resolution regarding controversial content. The resolution included a
request to the Executive Director to implement a "personal image hiding
feature" for the Wikimedia projects.
Following a community poll organized by the Foundation, and extensive
discussion in various venues, it has become clear that this issue can be be
highly divisive and distracting to the Wikimedia community. We trust our
community, and we respect the arguments that have been made opposing the
feature as well as those in support of it. We affirm our support for better
user choice and user preferences, but do not want to prescribe a specific
mechanism for offering that choice. Therefore we rescind the request to
develop this feature. The remainder of the May 2011 resolution remains in
effect."
Cheers

Hi all,
the Board of Trustees held a discussion at its Board meeting this week
regarding the creation of a travel guide project. Based upon those
discussions and the current state of the RFC, we would like the
community to continue its discussions for at least 6 more weeks to
ensure all interested parties have an opportunity to express their
views.
During the meeting we discussed many things all of which are important
for the community to understand:
a) We are excited to see this proposal from the community, and hope
the wider community of editors can reach consensus on it. We are
waiting for the conclusion of the RfC to take a decision on the issue.
b) We are committed to making knowledge freely reusable, and feel
there is room for multiple travel sites to coexist.
c) We feel it is important to be transparent with the community, that
should consensus be reached and a travel project created, the
foundation could support the initial creation of a travel guide
project, but could not provide a great deal of additional engineering
or staff support. Further technical efforts would have to come from
the community.
Please leave your Comments at

Dear all,
The agency that regulates in Mexico the Industrial Property (IMPI) signed
the ACTA agreement in Japan yesterday. Here's the official press
release[1].
In July 2011, a plural working group (composed of senators, experts,
enthusiasts and academics) had warned the risks of ACTA for Internet
freedom in our country, and exhorted the federal government to not sign
it. Even last week the European Parliament was rejected the same agreement.
The next step is to put pressure on Mexico to the Senate not to approve the
reform, due to the conclusions reached last year with the plural working
group.
We're taking actions as a local chapter, and asking that the community of
Wikipedia in Spanish to put an informative banner. We hope that these
actions can be supported and disseminated by the Wikimedia movement.
