I think you may find it interesting:
Polish Ministry of Finance has just started wiki-based service:
http://www.podatki.gov.pl/wiki/
"Podatki" means "taxes" :-)
The idea of the Wiki is to let people complain about absurds in Polish
taxation system and to propose projects how to change the situation.
Is it the first example when wiki was launched by goverment?

9-11 wikipedia needs to be moved. I can understand why its usefull and why
it should be kept. I lost people I know in the incident as well. However it
is impractical to have a memorial wikipedia in wikipedia/wikimedia namespace
which is about human knowlege. How people feel about 9/11 is not knowlege.
Anyways vote is avalible at:

After a discussion on this list several months ago (two?), we
re-published all the *memoirs* from 9/11 wiki on MemoryWiki (we left the
rest of the content alone as it didn't really fit our site's purpose).
You can see them (among other 9/11 memoirs) at
http://www.memorywiki.org/en/Category:9/11. Each memoir we re-published
points back to Wikipedia. We don't have advertising and are non-profit.

The entire wiki has degenerated into nothing but a magnet for trolls and
vandals. I can't see any reason for Wikicities to host something which
has never had any community behind it. Marshall Poe from memorywiki.org
expressed some interest in it previously. I expect that would be a
better place for it.

Hoi,
The American company BellSouth Corp. wants to have organisations pay
transport fees for the content they deliver over the Internet.
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story.asp?guid=%7B02432D2D-1EE0-4037-A15F-5…
They have even the affront to say that the Internet end users should
welcome this.
This mail is perhaps a bit off what we typically discuss on our
mailing lists, but it may lead to us having sharks like BellSouth
Corp. knocking on our doors..
Thanks,

A desysopping procedure against me has started on nl:
A brilliant timing btw my sysopstatus will be taken away on my birthday.
As I have said before. If I get desysopped something breaks in me. As I
have always done a lot for the community. It is ironic that on nl: the
trolls can stay, as they do not even get blocked! And the one who is
constantly trying to keep things going looses his modstatus.
I have tried after a year of discussing to finally get a blockpolicy
going on nl: that allows blocks for more than 24 hours. 7 proposals have
been made by 7 users. But no what do they want on nl: they want to
discuss things further. Meanwhile trolls feast on nl: and multiple users
have left already. Also an arbcom has been discussed for over a year.
And everytime someone has a proposal they discuss further and further
and further. NL: has become a discussionforum in which proposals are
discussed, but never ever implemented. I tried to further it by warning
people on their userpages that wikipedia is not a discussionforum. They
responded with a desysoppingprocedure here:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Afzetting_moderators
This is the worst birthday gift after over 2 years of hard work. I
defended nl.wikipedia a number of times over the radio as a
presscontact. everyone said I had done a good job. I now feel stupid
sorry for doing such a good job. This community doesn't deserve people
who are willing to work hard.

It has came to my attention that Kurdish wikipedia is begining to be an
increasingly problematic issue as more and more copyrighted material appears
on it. This extends from identical chunks of text from hear and there pasted
to Kurdish wikipedia (many articles are unwikified implying such a violation
I have one example for such a violation and I did not look hard for it.)
Since kurdish wikipedia servers are in the US (I presume) at the very least
we should have some sort of regulation on Kurdish wikipedia.
Wikipedia link:
http://ku.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdistan_%28rojname%29
Suspected copyvio:
http://www.copyscape.com/view.php?o=57949&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amidakurd.com%…http://www.copyscape.com/view.php?o=57949&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kurdistanmedia…
Also there are image vios. Many images are not tagged. I do not want to say
all but I could not find a single tagged image.
http://ku.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galeriya_%C5%9Eeh%C3%AEd%C3%AAn_PKK
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Furthermore I have serious concernes regarding the factual acuracy of
ku.wikipedia as there is little citation.
Some articles such as the galery above talks about the "fallen PKK comrades"
wikipedia is NOT a memorial (although the inaproporateness of
911.wikipediahas not been resolved yet). Nor is wikipedia median for
propoganda.

On the subject of the recent introduction of Wikimedia's visual
identity guidelines [1], I came across several images (one of which I
apparently created myself, though I don't remember doing so) which
contravene these guidelines. Angela has made a list of these on Meta
[2]. Most of these don't seem to be intrinsically harmful to the
Foundation's copyright or give the impression that the Foundation
endorses any concept or group that it in fact does not.
However, there are some images that do concern me. There are two
images created by Cool Cat [3] for a group named the "Counter
Vandalism Unit" [4], a group that aims to facilitate and improve
vandal fighting. The images are logos for the group. One [5]
incorporates the WMF logo, the other [6] the Wikipedia logo.
Cool Cat was given provisional permission by Anthere to use these
images before the above guidelines were created. [7]
However, the Counter Vandalism Unit does have some opposition within
the community. I would note that I myself am in disagreement with
much of its structure and attitudes, particularly some comments that
imply that the Unit is the only way in which to fight vandalism.
However, just to avoid any undue comments, I am sending this post not
to request removal but just _reappraisal_ of the situation, which I
see as potentially harmful.
The logos give the impression that the Unit is Foundation-sanctioned.
This idea is encouraged by the proliferation of the Foundation logo
attached to Unit-related matters (most notably the infamous
userboxes).
With this in mind, may I suggest that the provisional permission
granted to Cool Cat be at least reconsidered in light of the new
guidelines.
Happy Wikipedia Day!

In this moment I started to think that we have more then enough
promotion in media ;)
- 11. 1. 2005. I was talking 45 minutes on Radio Belgrade 2 about
Wikipedia, other Wikimedian projects and about WMF and WM SCG.
- 15. 1. 2005. (yesterday) we had usual meeting at Sunday, but with
more then 30 people. Half of them was from Linux User Group of
Belgrade which are willing to help to Wikipedia, too. They found that
we (on sr:) don't have Jimbo's biography and they would do it :) Also,
they would help us in the project "spoken Wikipedia".
- 16. 1. 2005. (today) B92 (the main Internet news portal in Serbia)
made an article about Wikipedia at the top of their culture section.
They promoted our presentation/discussion for Thursday.
- 17. 1. 2005. (tomorrow) our PR Jovana will talk seven minutes on one
(not so big) television (Art) from Belgrade.
- 19. 1. 2005. (Thursday) we would have presentation/discussion about
Wikipedia in the best place for it in Belgrade (Youth Cultural
Center).
- 28. 1. 2005. we would have projection of the movie Revolution OS in
the cinema of Youth Cultural Center.
- Between 30. 1. 2005. and 9. 2. 2005. I would be in Slovenia and
Croatia and I would talk about Wikipedia with Wikipedians from
Slovenia and Croatia. I would talk about Serbian Wikipedian community
on University of Ljubljana (thanks to Roman Maurer).
