Dear fellows,
I really would like to know which countries are using Flickr after all, and if you have an estimate of how many images are being tranferred from there?
Could you please reply?

Hi,
We're using flickr and we have about 200 images there so far. I'm waiting for approval to run my import bot. So far I've made a test run for 7 images.
If you want to see the coutnries using flickr, just search for "wiki loves monuments" in the flickr groups.

We have a ready to use bot account with pywikipedia set up. Could you please commit your code to https://fisheye.toolserver.org/browse/erfgoed/erfgoedbot/ ? Would be nice to make a scalable bot of this. You can find last years bot at https://fisheye.toolserver.org/browse/multichill/bot/erfgoed/flickrripper_wl...

I would prefer it if people add it to https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monum...

http://www.flickr.com/groups/wlm2011nl/ contains 150 pictures. So lets say 400 at the end of the month (much less than the 3000 last year on flickr).I believe germany is using flickr as well?? There seems to be-Romania-Spain-Netherlands-CAT-Eesti-German (empty)-old netherlands group (allready on commons)

Hi Maarten,
I can put my code on the svn tonight, but if you're thinking about using your usual flickr transfer bot for all the languages, I don't think it meets the requirements that we have here at WLM.
In our group, some users don't make adequate descriptions of the photo, but rather use that field for publicity of their profiles on different websites. This means that the bug MUST be supervised by a human who speaks the language of the groups. So while my code can put the relevant categories and templates, it should be run by individuals from each country.
Furthermore, there are some groups, like WLM ES, that do not seem to filter the pictures in the group, so they must be filtered at least when uploaded on Commons. (I might have misunderstood some of their messages, in which case I apologise)
Thanks, Strainu

The WLM ES group *is* a filtered one. Maybe some photos were incorrectly approved. AFAIK there is also a backlog there. I wonder if some other country considered using a bot for review there? Something like: For each photo waiting review: - Grab its description, and detect if it contains a valid monument id (I already have code for validating a monument id) - If the id is valid, approve the photo and send a thanking message. - If the id is missing/wrong, send the user a flickrmail explaining the problem and reject (or make a note, and retry a few days later).
Does anyone have something similar? The hardest part seems to be that no interface with flickr would be available, not the actual processing.

What do you mean by "no interface with flickr would be available"? Which part lacks in the flickr api?

I'm not familiar with flickr programming. Is there a framework which already provides the function so you just need to do eg. flick_send_msg('Strainu', "You uploaded a lot of copyvios\n")

Hmmm...apparently not.[1] It's probably because you don't authenticate with user/pass when using the API. However, I have discovered a greasemonkey script [2] that's able to send flickr mails, so I guess making a JS that put a "validate the picture" button under each queued picture should not be that hard. However, I've caught my nose once too many in JS these days, so I'll pass on the chance to code that. :P Please let us know if you write the script after all.

Hi,
I've uploaded the code at the indicated location as flickrripper_strainu.py. The file contains a ripper_config dictionary with the same fields as those in the table on commons. I've tested it against the Romanian group.
Please feel free to review the code as thoroughly as possible, I'm always eager to learn :)
Thanks, Strainu
Thank you all who have responded.
You got me convinced to open Flickr, I hope we still have some time...
I'm kind of lost here.... I'm not a Flickr user (at all). Can someone put a bullet list of what's needed to implement and request from Flickr users?
Hi Nuno,
What we did in NL is make a moderated group, with some admins, and allow everybody to submit as many pictures as they want. That way, every incoming picture has to be reviewed (license, tag (identifier) and own work).
You will need to prepare some information package on the forum of your group: basically put an FAQ there with every Q its own thread. Feel free to google translate the NL group for some inspiration. This includes questions like "why a free license", "why is NC / ND not allowed", "what is with this tag", "what to do, to make my picture OK for submission" (change license and add tag with monument identifier) etc. Dont forget the "How do I find an IGESPAR identifier" and "Why do you want this crazy tag".
In NL we have the tag rm=12345. You probably want something like igespar=12345
If people submit images, many will not have the right tag or license. The admins should not disqualify those images, but leave them in the queue, and contact the submitter via FlickrMail and ask to fix it.
To get things going, you will need one or two experienced Flickr users who are willing to post on Flickr groups etc about the contest, and who can contact currently active Flickr users to participate.
Hope that helps. If you need some practical help, just ask basvb or akoopal in #wikilovesmonuments

Okay, thank you so much for those who have replied. I'll have a look during this weekend, hope to find some of you on IRC if I get stuck.
Catalan area group (Wiki Loves Monuments CAT: http://www.flickr.com/groups/wikilovesmonumentscat/) has1.105 images. Now, we have transferred 122 images and there are 678 images waiting to upload.
We would like a bot to upload them.
