Hi,
WLM-IL team decided to budged up to 2,000$ for developing voting system for WLM juries.
I'm looking for developer who can build a basic web program which can be uses by all the others countries also. I'll shortly post a draft how I think the system will need to look like. We looking for something to be used by our judges, not the public (so this tool will not help countries who looking for "crowd-sourcing" voting system).
If someone know a good developer who can do it for us quickly, I'll be happy to help contacting him.

Here the basic things that I think this system need to include. I opened Google docs for everyone, so you can add notes on each option. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dBhgIyCvE8x1R6O0f-67136VBKGK8eAEq9_oe108...

I just wondering, if there are more countries who interesting in such kind of a voting system, or maybe we can develop much more basic things only for the uses of WMIL and save time & money..

Itzik, I think it would be a great idea to have some sort of generic feedback tool for Commons. Who is afraid of big data these days? You could enable a link to a photo that uses a clickthrough method to just ask the question "Does this photo represent what you were looking for?" or something like that. The WLM competition could become an incubator for experiments on Commons like that (just not this year, though). Jane

Hi Jane,
Maybe I didn't explain myself right. This system is not to be uses on Commons, and not by the public. It's a really separate one which only importing the photos from a specific category and allowing only specific people to rate them (the juries)..

We can use this tool for round 1 voting, if it lets split set of all pictures into subsets and then assign subset1 to some juries, subset 2 to other juries, etc. And after voting download all selected files or get file list.

The tool is interesting but it should solve some questions:
a) when it can be ready b) how big can be the local DB
The last question is important because there are some countries with few hundred photos and some other countries with 10.000 - 20.000 and probably 30.000 photos.

There are several existing photo management tools where you can do such things - like rating, categorizing, adding metadata, filtering images according to metadata.
IMO there are two main hurdles:
1) You need to write a tool, that downloads images from the WLM category an possibly add some XMP metadata to the image (if needed.. like uploader, categories, URL)
2) You need a photo management software that is able to work in a multi-user scenario (with a shared database).
From what I have heard, DBGallery can work in multi-user mode (but I never tried this). I myself use ACDSee - it's fast even for large amounts of images and has lots of functions to handle metadata (including ratings and categorizations), search and filtering. But the downside of ACDSee is (as far as I know), that only one user can access its internal database at a time.

The major drawback of using labs is that we don't have access to the database which is the killer feature for this tool.
Just an update:
Yan from our chapter volunteered to do it, so he leading this and already started to work on that. If someone want to help him and support this so we can maybe finish a test version until the end of the week - please contact him, yan@nasonov.co.il
