Hi Nico,
thanks a lot for your email. Just taking the upload form aside, to avoid confusion of topics.
The upload form is not finished yet, because it will be based on the new upload interface of Wikimedia Commons. I don't know the exact timeline, but I got many guarantees that it will definitely be ready in time. Of course you can expect an announcement here when the time is there.

Hi all Happy to hear so much good stuff from Berlin's meeting, seems that it was really positive. Regarding the cost of the European part, WMCH should be in the position to participate. I would only know as soon as possible the requested amount for us, in order to know if I can take it out of my budget for the local contest or if I have to go in front of the board to ask for additional money (which I don't like so much). Thanks, Nico
Ps quick question : any idea when the specific upload form will be available in Commons? I didn't found any timeline information on this topic.

To bring back in memory, the following costs were estimated:
TOTAL: Worst case scenario: 10.300 EURO + shipping - Best-case scenario:
3.000 EURO
- Prizes (1.500 EURO) (if no sponsors are found)
- Printing 500+ calendars (WMPL will find budget locally): 3.000 euro
- shipping + boxes, winning messages and so on. ( 200 for finalists + 300
for the chapters)
- Intl. thankyou goodies (calendars will go for that now)
- grant system for chapters that need help. 1.500 euro
- Optional: Jury costs? (7 people (says 8 above)): 2.400 (travel) + 400
(hotel) + 200 (meeting room) + 300 (living costs) = 3.300 euro
- Announcement costs? 1.000 euro (worst case)
please note:
- Hopefully printing costs will end up at zero
- Odder is still trying to find an estimate for shipping costs
- Jury costs we did not make a decision on, but I budgeted it in for
worst case.
- Announcement costs are assuming that we cannot do that during DISH.
- This is on top of existing budget by Wikimedia Nederland (for travel

Hi Maarten,
We had a team brainstorming tonight and we reached the conclusion that:
1. In RO contest we'll very likely only accept uploads to Wikimedia Commons, so the customized upload form is an important element for us, including perhaps an API to integrate it in our website 2. We would very much prefer to have the default license to CC-BY-SA-3.0 RO (Romanian version).
This probably means that we would need a way to customize the upload form by ourselves. Do you think this would be feasible or we'll all share the same upload form?
Also, do we have any ETA on that form?
Thanks, Strainu

as far as I know, every country will be able to change the upload form according to their needs. For example, every country has a different way of numbering/identifying the monument in the picture.

That's the plan. We have a number of different countries and some countries even have multiple languages (Switzerland for example) so the upload form needs to be flexible.

The custom WLM Commons upload wizard has the highest priority for me. I'm talking to the WMF about it. Neil took some notes at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:NeilK/Multimedia2011/WikiLovesMonuments
Planning is to have the first prototype by 1st of July and have it up and running by the 1st of August so we have time for customization and translation.
Platonides is taking the lead to create an awesome API, you can view the progress at http://toolserver.org/~erfgoed/api/api.php . Would be nice if more people could help out to improve the api!
2. We would very much prefer to have the default license to CC-BY-SA-3.0 RO (Romanian version).
That would be one of the customizable options I guess.
Hope this answers your questions.

Hi, I have done experiments with this, an upload form outside of the wikipedia can be implemented in drupal very easily. you can create a document type submission with a picture contained.
I have also created bots to do uploaded of pictures, this can been combined.
We should in theory be able to host this on the toolserver, but there is a policy against drupal.. mike

I'm sure this works very well, but it's not an option for Wiki Loves Monuments. We're past the decision point. In Berlin we decided Commons is going to be the primary point of upload and we're not going to use custom build external sites. One of the goals of Wiki Loves Monuments is to attract more people to Commons, having an external site is a bit counter-productive to this goal ;-)
Maybe you can help with the api? All php :-)

maybe that is good for netherlands, but i can tell you in kosovo the people are not that wiki friendly. I dont see a problem with integrating drupal and a wiki. it is all just mysql data anyway. it is all in the matrix! mike

Hi Mike,
thanks for your input. The form will be simple enough that they can use it - if not, the form is not good enough for us either :) We will reduce the workflow as much as possible and make a special WLM upload form on commons filling in everything we can already. You would end up with the same result more or less as your suggestion, but then people would be doing it /on commons/ and get familiar with it. Like Maarten said, we shouldn't be going back on decisions like this, otherwise we will not be in time for the contest.
As a sidenote, this is the first time I hear about Kosovo in this context - perhaps you could explain in a seperate thread in a bit more detail what you are referring to exactly? Because I am not aware of Kosovo participating in WLM :) (and it is very short time now, so we should get a better image of the status where you are, and what still needs to happen to see if it is realistic and if you need help)
With kind regards,
Lodewijk

maybe that is good for netherlands, but i can tell you in kosovo the people are not that wiki friendly. I dont see a problem with integrating drupal and a wiki. it is all just mysql data anyway. it is all in the matrix! mike

All php :-)

Installing drupal just for providing an upload form? O_O
You can upload from an external site using the classical upload easily (I doubt UploadWizard allows that) but the users would need to be logged-in in commons anyway. The reason for making people go upload to commons is not that people is already "wiki friendly", but that a goal of the competition is that we want them able to upload to commons. Although we will provide a custom interface for the fields they need based on UploadWizard.
Renessaince: the code for [1] is available at [2] but since we will be using UploadWizard, I wouldn't begin translating that different one.
