Are there any plans to use geolocalized messages in the CentralNotice announcing the competition?
Cheers, Gonçalo
I think such use would be very helpful - I personally was definitely planning on that yes. It makes little sense to bother everybody in other countries with announcements they cannot use.
Another option is to do everything language based, which has as advantage that you also "catch" the tourists, but then you dont get all the people at enwiki for example.

I think both options are interesting. First catch the tourists at home informing that they can plan some monuments on their foreseeable holidays, and then catch the people geolocated with the monuments they have on place.

If we want to catch tourists, shouldn't we announce the contest during June or July? Most people take holidays in July, August. Nuno alerted me that this was already planned for September in the timeline ( http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/Timeline), but perhaps we could have an earlier announcement for tourists. Something like "Don't forget to take great pictures of monuments during your holidays and enter WLM in September." And then in September have something like "There are x monuments in "country". Wikipedia only has pictures for y of them. Help Wikipedia by taking pictures of monuments like "name of monument near you" and enter our competition."

Hi everyone,
We want to create a buzz. Every once in a while a topic at your local village pump, some tweets, articles, all to get "Wiki Loves Monuments" buzzing around. In September (and just before) we'll do the heavy marketing with site notices and other ways to get attention. Communication is on the list of topics we'll discus in Berlin :-)
