Hi all,Mainly directed to the organizers of last years contest but also to the other countrys. What is the best way to get the jury to go through all the images? Did you put them in one room and force them to stay there until they had looked att all 12.5k images or do you have some other way of doing it? Are there any good tools for doing it fast and simple? /axel [[User:Haxpett]] ====================================

Last year I provided a file to download with all the photo's. That was ok, but could have been better. Have every jury member do a pre-selection of say 100 photo's. This way you can focus on the better photo's at the meeting right away. Doing the pre selection can be done with a local image viewer, just delete every image you don't like and you'll end up with photos for the pre-selection.

What we did was: First each jurymember had 1 month time to watch the 12500 pictures (I did this on commons, other with some tools i believe), all 5 jurymembers had to make a selection of 100 pictures. The 5 jurymembers together got like 350 unique pictures. We came together one evening and watched those 350 pictures, we voted which pictures we wanted to select and which we didn't want (if 3 jurymembers said OK it was to the next round). This way we came to something like 40 pictures. We looked closer to these 40 and this way selected our winners. The way i watched 12.500 pictures: My idea was that the pictures had to jump out. So I scrolled to the commons cat (took 3-4 hours) and copied every picture which jumped out (some jumped out but had a very bad quality). My first selection can be found here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Basvb/500 (500 pictures). This selection I brought down to 70 in 3 or 4 steps: selecting the better pictures every time until I went under the 100. Some general organizational tips:
* Keep a very clear timeline * Have a whip who makes sure the timeline is kept - but not necessarily voting member of the jury. * Deadline is October 31 - then you *must* submit your nominations to the European jury! * Organize a real life meeting for the jury (room, coffee, tea, cookies and some soda - no alcohol :P & travel reimbursement ) and lock the door * Give a small gift to the jurors and all other volunteers
Hope that helps,
Lodewijk

More questions about the jury, not sure if this has arised before. I guess the jury members are not elegible for the prizes they are deciding, neither the local organizing committee. How about the board of the organizing chapter?

Hi Vincenç,
of course this is highly dependent on local customs and rules - but my personal opinion the main organizers, jury members and board members of the organizing chapter cannot win a prize (i.e. you can't win in your country, but if you submit a photo to the German competition you could theoretically win). You may even choose to make this more strict in your local situation if you consider that better (for example, family members etc)
