Dear All, I am delighted to confirm that the Board of Wikimedia Poland has generously agreed to cover the costs of producing 500 calendars showing 12 best photos from the European stage of our competition as chosen by the European jury.
The calendars will be printed on a high quality A3 or A4 photographic paper, and will consist of 13 pages, including the title page. We will have the possibility to design them from scratch and are currently looking for a graphic designer and a DTP specialist -- volunteers are hereby warmly welcomed :-)
Wikimedia Poland will pay for the said 500 calendars; in order to collect your orders, I've designed a Google form, just as it was designed by Nicole for the T-shirts. Please fill the form giving all the required information, as stated at http://goo.gl/b2T20.
As we have to divide those 500 calendars between 18 participating countries, we plan to send 25 calendars to each country; you will be able to order more than that, but you'll need to pay for the additional number. The shipping costs will be covered from our European budget.
The exact cost of the orders will be given after we collect orders from all countries; please try to fill the form in the next three weeks, as the deadline is Wednesday, November 9, 00:00 (UTC), so we can have the time to button up the whole thing before the results of the European stage are announced.
The order form, again, is available at http://goo.gl/b2T20. Regards,
Dear all,
thanks, Tomasz, for your generous support, great to hear that!
Can you give an estimate, when the calenders will be ready to be shipped?
If you need help from our designer, please let me know. :)
Best, Nicole

Hi Nicole and all, I think that we'll need at least two weeks to print and ship the calendars around Europe after the results of the European jury are announced; so I think these might get to you around December 5-9 (Saint Nicholas Day & Christkind, yay!).
Thanks to another generous grant from Wikimedia Poland, I will be taking part in GLAMcamp Amsterdam 2011, so I hope I might take some of the calendars with me to Amsterdam -- and this would definitely decrease the amount of money needed for the shipment.
As for the translation part, I've been thinking about it for some time already but haven't found a reasonable solution; I think that we may come to an agreement on this list in the upcoming days.
PS Nicole, your designers' help will definitely be appreciated, thanks for the suggestion :-))
Dear All, this is just to remind you that the deadline for filling out the calendars order form is next Wednesday, November 9, 00:00 (UTC).
Up to now, I have received the orders from 11 out of 19 countries and autonomous communities :-) participating in this years' Wiki Loves Monuments (625 calendars ordered in total). I still miss the orders from the following countries and communities:
* Andorra; * Austria; * Belgium; * Catalonia; * France; * Luxembourg; * Norway; * Switzerland.
Please make sure to fill the order form before the deadline; it is available at http://goo.gl/b2T20.
PS We'll definitely need to think about organising the budget for the shipping costs in the upcoming days; any ideas how to solve this situation?
Thanks,
Hello,
I was waiting for the definitive answer regarding the language of the calendars.
Another question is the delay for the shipping : when would we receive them ?
Sylvain.

Hi Sylvain, answering your first question:
The calendars will be language-neutral, which means that: * the front cover will display the names of the contest in the languages of the participating countries and the WLM logo (or maybe a collage); * the back cover will have short information about the licencing and the contest in the languages of all participating countries; * the calendar pages will be language-neutral, the names of the months and of the days will be replaced by numbers and a clear column-styled table; * the descriptions of the winning images will be given in the language of the country from which the image comes and in English.
I thought that we could ship the calendars around December 5-6, but I've been later told that the results will be announced by the end of November, so hopefully the calendars will be received around the half of December (or slightly before the Christmas) -- *if* we have a budget for the shipment, of course.
Regards,
Thank you for your quick answer.
I'll check with the French community and fill the form ASAP.
Sylvain.

Minor correction:
The results will be announced by December 9/10, but the designer will get the winners as soon as the jury finds them out :) Of course under strict embargo! ;-)

Dear List, this is just to remind you that the time for filling out the calendars order form expires in a couple of hours, at 00:00 (UTC).
I still haven't received the orders from the following countries:
* Austria; * Belgium; * France; * Luxembourg; * Norway; * Switzerland.
Please make sure to fill the order form before the deadline; it is available at http://goo.gl/b2T20.
Dear All, I'd like to thank you for filling out the calendars order form. With Belgium and Luxembourg being the last countries :-) I've finally collected all the orders.
In total, we have ordered a _massive_ sum of 1,000 (a thousand) calendars -- hurray! :-) I have, however, learned that there are some other organisations (who are not to be named as of yet) willing to order our calendars, so if you know anybody who might be interested in ordering them, too, please let me know off-list.
I'll be placing the order in the upcoming days, and in order to collect the money for the remaining ~400 calendars, I'll be contacting all the contact people privately, off-list, with all the payment information, so please stay tuned! :-)
Having written that, I would like you to think about the budget for shipping the calendars to all the participating countries; for now, we are going to ship the calendars to 14 different places around Europe (excluding Belgium & Luxembourg, Andorra and, for obvious reasons, Poland), which is going to cost us about €270-300, depending mainly on the cost of the euro (€), which has been significantly rising for the past few months (the more expensive the euro is, the better for us :).
As agreed upon our working meeting in Berlin in May, up to now, all the European-wide Wiki Loves Monuments expenses have been covered by either Wikimedia Germany, Wikimedia Netherlands or Wikimedia Poland. This time, however, I am counting on the willingness of the other chapters to chip-in to cover these expenses :-))
I hope that we can reach an agreement over this case in the upcoming two-three weeks. All comments and questions are, as always, welcomed.
Again, thanks!
Hello,
How do you plan to handle the language question for the days and months names ?
Everything in English ? Multilingual calendars (with at last 16 languages spoken in the participating countries, not sure this can be made...) ? Print X calendars in Polish, Y in English, Z in French and so on ?
Sylvain.

I think multilingual would be great if possible (if it is only the name of the month & day of the week, that should be doable, the credits would become a tad more challanging unless you work with graphical icons - ie a camera for author etc) and otherwise we'd have to work in English as our working langauge probably. I assume we won't get all beautiful calendars in Polish ;)
Personally I would rather have it in English/multilingual than in Dutch - because the Dutch doesn't feel so international :) (the french might see that differently and prefer the Dutch)

I guess we can make a calendar with digits and colors only on internal pages + covers with text in all 16 languages. On front cover there can be "Wiki Loves Monuments" translated to 15 other languages scattered semi-randomly on the page with a logo behind it. Bac cover can contain CC-BY-SA required credits in all 16 languages printed with small characters + maybe short description what WLM is about also in 16 languages.
Internal pages can be simply "big numbered" Big 1 for January, Big 2 for February, etc. without printing names of months which are obvious for erybody... Then days can be simply put with numbers only in clear weekly table with saturdays and sundays in different colors, but no names of the weekdays, wich are also obvious. Finally we can mark International Wikipedia Day in some special way.
As all pictures are CC-BY-SA - there is no need to mark each of them on internal pages. We can only put small "signature" of the author (usually nickname from Commons), and CC-BY-SA symbol on the back-cover.
That would easily make language-neutral project.
Just in case something can be stolen, I add a link to WMI wikicalendar files: http://wikimedia.it/index.php/Categoria:Wiki_calendario

This one has some "internationalisations".
I gues there are more wik-calendars designes all around :-)
